"Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) is serving as Speaker pro tempore until the House votes on a new Speaker. Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) are seen as the top contenders in the race," according to PHL 17 News.
"McHenry, in what has been seen as an act of revenge following McCarthy’s ouster, ordered Pelosi and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) to vacate their Capitol 'hideaway' offices," it added.

"[Steve] Scalise made his case for why he should be the next House speaker in a letter to colleagues on Wednesday," following McCarthy's exit," ABC News reported.
"God already gave me another chance at life," he wrote. "I believe we were all put here for a purpose. This next chapter won't be easy, but I know what it takes to fight and I am prepared for the battles that lie ahead."
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan has also noted his plans to serve as House Speaker. Others may join in the battle next week over the new effort to become the next Speaker.
Some have even suggested that former President Donald Trump serve in the role, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and a few others supporting the longshot effort.
The bottom line is that McCarthy is out and that the House must next battle for its next leader as it seeks to move forward in it impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden.
