Nancy Pelosi Claims She Thinks Trump Will Skip Debate

Amidst political tensions, Representative Nancy Pelosi expressed doubt about Donald Trump's commitment to the upcoming presidential debate according to The Washington Examiner.

Pelosi claimed during a recent interview that the scheduled debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris may face a notable absentee, and somehow Pelosi thinks it won't be Harris.

The debate, set for September 10, has already stirred controversies beyond its schedule. Hosted by ABC News, it stands at the center of a partisan dispute, with Trump and his team vocally challenging the network’s impartiality.

Pelosi, speaking at TribFest, questioned Trump's willingness to participate given these tensions. "Do you think he’s gonna show up?" she posed, casting doubt on his presence.

"I know cowardice when I see it," Pelosi remarked, suggesting that Trump's complaints about media bias might deter him from attending.

Pelosi's Influence Continues Beyond Speakership

Although Pelosi stepped down from her role as House Speaker earlier this year, her influence within Democratic circles remains strong.

Her participation in political discourse, especially at events like TribFest, underscores her continued relevance.

She was instrumental in the shift within the Democratic party that saw President Joe Biden declined to seek re-election, paving the way for Harris's nomination.

This change has led to new dynamics in the debate preparations, with Harris's team attempting to alter the rules around muted microphones—a move Trump's team resisted, sticking to the original agreement set during Biden's tenure.

Despite Harris's efforts to tweak the debate format, Trump's advisors have maintained a rigid stance on the rules. These were initially crafted during the 2020 campaign and have been a point of contention this election cycle as well.

Trump has yet to publicly state he will skip the debate but has repeatedly criticized ABC News, accusing the network of being biased against him.

The refusal by Trump’s team to modify the debate format as per the Harris camp's wishes has added another layer of drama to the pre-debate narrative.

Historical Political Rivalries Resurface

Pelosi and Trump have a storied history of political opposition, dating back to his presidency beginning in 2017.

Their interactions have often been marked by public disagreements and sharp exchanges.

The upcoming debate is seen as not just a platform for the 2024 presidential election but also a continuation of longstanding political battles between figures like Pelosi and Trump.

As the debate day approaches, all eyes are on Trump to see if he will confront his rival on the national stage or choose to step back amidst controversies over fairness and media treatment.
