A man who escaped from a Mississippi courthouse and was wanted on charges of murder and armed robbery has been apprehended in Chicago. Joshua Zimmerman, who had been on the run since June, was taken into custody following a standoff with police at a restaurant near the United Center.
The Associated Press reported that Zimmerman was captured after an intense standoff just blocks away from the Democratic National Convention.
Zimmerman had previously escaped from the circuit court building in Hernando, Mississippi, where he was facing charges of murder and armed robbery.
After his escape, the U.S. Marshals Service launched an extensive search to locate him. Zimmerman was also awaiting extradition to Houston, Texas, where he faced additional murder charges.
On Tuesday, Zimmerman was found at a restaurant in Chicago, about a half-mile from the United Center.

Smith stated, "Zimmerman was 'barricaded inside that restaurant,' and that authorities want to bring him back to Mississippi and 'gather the remaining facts surrounding his escape.'" The standoff finally concluded around 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday when Zimmerman was taken into custody.
