Military responds to airspace violation during Biden's vacation

The U.S. military had to deploy fighter jets to respond to an airspace violation that took place during President Joe Biden's vacation.

The incident, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), took place on Friday morning, at 7:50 a.m. PT, near Lake Tahoe.

NORAD's press release states, "Two NORAD F-16 fighter aircraft and a U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin responded to a civilian aircraft that violated a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) area near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, this morning."

It appears that the civilian aircraft violated the  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation that prevents aircraft from being in the vicinity of the president.

The regulation states:

No person may operate an aircraft over or in the vicinity of any area to be visited or traveled by the President, the Vice President, or other public figures contrary to the restrictions established by the FAA and published in a NOTAM (Notice to Air Mission).

NORAD says that fighter jets "escorted" the civilian aircraft "out of the area."

During the process, NORAD says that it had to release flares.

The press release states:

During this event, the fighter aircraft dispensed flares – that may have been visible to the public – to gain attention from the pilot. Flares were employed with the highest regard for safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground. The flares burn out quickly and completely and there is no danger to people on the ground when dispensed.

None of this, however, appears to have disrupted Biden's vacation in any way. The White House has released a statement, saying, "The situation was resolved without incident and with no impact to the President."

That is certainly a relief.

Biden has been at Lake Tahoe - on the California side - since Tuesday. He is staying at an $18 million house that belongs to Tom Steyer, the businessman and former Democratic presidential candidate.

Biden is staying at the house along with several members of his family, including his wife, First Lady Jill Biden; his daughter Ashley; his son, Hunter; Hunter's wife, Melissa Cohen; and others.

The White House claims that Biden is paying the fair market rental value of the house. It is unclear what this equates to.

Besides corruption, Biden has been facing a lot of criticism for the amount of vacation time that he has taken during his presidency. The latest tally indicates that Biden has spent nearly 40% - or over 370 days - of his first term on vacation.
