Michelle Obama still haunted by comments about her shorts during trip

When Barack Obama was president, the fashion magazines gushed over Michelle Obama. She adorned many covers and feature stories, including a recent Vogue story that claimed, “Michelle Obama Perfected Cool First Lady Style.”

Yes, she says she is still infuriated for the one time she was criticized for flying in shorts.

Cool first Lady Style

The recent article in Vogue is about the norm for what we saw when Obama was in office.

They act as though Michelle Obama was a fashion icon, but I can hardly remember more than one or two occasions where she wore something that looked good, let alone outstanding.

She always seemed out of place to me in that world, as I see her as more of a business suit person.

And if you look at the article in Vogue, I dare you to find more than one of those outfits that you would consider worthy of a cover, if you can even find one.

A true supermodel

The truly amusing part of this is that fashion magazines had a true fashion model in the White House, and they do again, and all they do is dump on her.

When Melania dresses casually, they say she did not meet the moment. When she dresses up, they say she is overdressed for the function.

For instance, when she invited a group of school children to the White House to help her in the garden, she was ripped for wearing a flannel shirt.

Yet, when she joined Trump for a G7 summit meeting in Sicily, they criticized her for wearing an expensive 3-D floral print Dolce & Gabbana coat. When was the last time you read a fashion magazine criticizing a Democrat for wearing something too expensive?

Infuriating

That brings us back to Michelle, who said it was “infuriating” when she was called out for flying on Air Force One in a pair of shorts. She stated, "The fact that we had to spend time thinking about that kind of stuff in ways that my husband didn’t — it was really infuriating." She continued, "Then an article, a negative article, still happened."

She then explained, "I can't wear hiking shorts there, and I can't wear a dress to hike. That would be crazy. People would call me 'disconnected' and 'un-American.' I'm at the Grand Canyon in a tea-length dress with flats? I was like, 'That's not how people go to the Grand Canyon.'

"I eventually opted for the thing that felt mostly me. And it was the Bermuda shorts. Because if we're going on a hike, this is how a normal person would go on a hike."

One time… she was criticized one time, and it still “haunts” her to this day. How self-absorbed can one person be?
