McConnell took a fall weeks before freezing on camera during mid-speech: Report

This week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had a scary and bizarre incident in front of the cameras, freezing halfway through his speech and appearing to be completely lost and confused as to what was happening at that moment.

"Well, good afternoon, everyone,” McConnell said to begin his speech. "We’re on a path to finishing the NDAA this week. There’s been good bipartisan cooperation, as well as a string of, uh,” before freezing.

Staffers and fellow senators eventually escorted him away, but the incident was so jarring that many have revived calls for cognitive health tests for high-level politicians on both sides of the aisle.

According to Breitbart, it was also revealed that McConnell reportedly took a fall earlier this month while disembarking from a plane.

The outlet noted:

Two sources familiar with the fall incident confirmed to NBC News that it happened at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, adding that he sustained no serious injuries and resumed business as usual that day.

Social media quickly reacted to the news. Many renewed calls for McConnell's resignation following the incident, and news that he fell down after getting off the plane.

"Not only did McConnell freeze up for 30 seconds, but turns out he also fell July 14th at Reagan Intnl Airport. Why all the secrecy? HE NEEDS TO RESIGN!," one X user wrote.

NBC News reported that McConnell's fall had not previously been revealed, raising questions as to why the incident was kept quiet.

“The fall, which has not been previously reported, occurred July 14 after the flight out of Washington was canceled while everyone was on board."

“McConnell who was a passenger, had a ‘face plant,’ someone who was on the plane at the time but did not witness the fall told NBC News. That passenger also said they spoke to another passenger who helped tend to McConnell.”

McConnell's age-related troubles have already garnered high-profile attention, including a response from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a 2024 presidential candidate, who said politicians of McConnell's age should consider "passing the baton" to younger leaders.

McConnell, after the freezing incident, later emerged laughing and even cracking a joke about President Biden.

Only time will tell if McConnell considers hanging it up, but sadly, it'll probably take another incident before that happens.
