McCarthy threatens to shut down government if Biden doesn't take action on the border

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is standing his ground on the upcoming government shutdown threat.

In a bombshell tweet, the speaker threatened to allow the shutdown to happen if President Joe Biden doesn't get off "the sidelines" with regard to the explosive, dangerous illegal immigration crisis happening at the southern U.S. border.

McCarthy held nothing back in his threat, referencing the out-of-control situation currently taking place at border crossing points like Eagle Pass, Texas.

"If President Biden stays on the sidelines while our border is destroyed day after day, the government will shut down. Just like we've had strikes in California and Michigan, and embassies evacuated around the world, his lack of leadership has catastrophic consequences," McCarthy wrote on X.

"The Senate has not done their job. The Senate has not taken up the House work,” he emphasized in a clip attached to his post, calling for the president to "step in and do something about it."

“Otherwise, government will shut down," the speaker added.

Breitbart added:

McCarthy’s remarks come as Republicans attempt to “pass the 12 separate appropriations bills funding the entire government through the 12 different vehicles rather than through one big one, like an omnibus or another catch-all funding bill for the full government, or most of it,” as Breitbart News detailed.

McCarthy went on to slam the president for implementing many of the disastrous policies that have led to the current situation at the southern border, including his rolling back of Trump-era policies that helped mitigate the situation.

“This is your policies. This wasn’t a policy that was passed through the House and Senate that opened up this border. It was simply your decision," McCarthy said.

There's growing buzz that McCarthy's job as the House leader could be on the line next week, depending on how the shutdown situation shakes out.

Many across social media believe he should be vacated from the position.

Only time will tell if he holds strong and follows through on his threats. If not, there could soon be a new Republican speaker holding the gavel.
