Mark Meadows reportedly secures immunity in 2020 election case against Trump

There are apparently a lot of deals being made in the halls of the Department of Justice, including deals with former staffers and associates of former President Donald Trump.

According to the Washington Examiner, in the federal case against Trump regarding the 2020 election, former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has been granted immunity.

The Examiner noted:

Meadows, Trump's former chief of staff, reportedly testified that he informed Trump repeatedly after the election that allegations of widespread voter fraud were baseless, according to ABC News, which cited unnamed "sources familiar with the matter."

Meadows has reportedly met with federal investigators three times this year, and reportedly described Trump's claims in November 2020 that he was the rightful winner of the election "dishonest."

As a result of the deal Meadows made with federal prosecutors, none of his testimony can be used against him.

In the federal case against Trump regarding the 2020 election results, six co-conspirators were named in the indictment. It was noted that Meadows was not one of the co-conspirators.

Notably, Meadows is also facing a similar legal situation out of the state of Georgia.

The Examiner noted:

Meadows is however facing charges in a separate case in Georgia brought against him, Trump, and 17 other co-defendants over similar election-related allegations.

Four co-defendants have pleaded guilty through plea deals that will require them to testify truthfully in the Georgia case's trial. Meadows has not entered a plea and is in the appeal stage of attempting to move his case to federal court.

For his part, former President Trump took to Truth Social to cast doubt on whether or not Meadows actually "turned" on him to secure an immunity deal.

Trump wrote that he doesn't believe Meadows "would lie about the Rigged and [stolen] 2020 Presidential Election merely for getting IMMUNITY against Prosecution (PERSECUTION!) by Deranged Prosecutor, Jack Smith."

He added that while he knows some people will ultimately flip, saying "they are weaklings and cowards, and so bad for the future our Failing Nation. I don’t think that Mark Meadows is one of them, but who really knows?"

Some of the lawyers connected to the efforts to overturn the 2020 election results have been in the headlines in recent weeks as they enter pleas and make deals.

Only time will tell if Meadows fully turns on his former boss.
