Man imprisoned for threatening GOP Rep. Greene

A man has been sentenced to prison for repeatedly threatening U.S. Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene.

This information comes from a press release that the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York released on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.

"Joseph F. Morelli, age 51, of Endicott, New York was sentenced today to serve three months in prison for making threatening phone calls from his home to the voicemail in the office of a member of Congress in Washington, D.C." the press release reads.

It appears that the prison sentence was part of a plea deal that Morelli reached with the prosecution.

The press release goes on to reveal the contents of three separate phone calls that Morelli made to Greene. This all took place on March 3, 2022.

The press release states that Morelli admitted that "he placed a telephone call to the Washington, D.C. office of a member of the U.S. House Representatives that said in part, 'I'm gonna have to take your life into my own hands . . . I'm gonna hurt you. Physically, I’m gonna harm you.'"

According to the press release, this was the first of three voicemails that Morelli left for Greene on March 3, 2022.

In the second voicemail, Morelli is reported to have said:

I'm gonna have to show you, to your face, right up front, what violence truly is, and I don't think you're gonna like it . . . I can pay someone 500 bucks to take a baseball bat and crack your skull . . . You are going to get f****** physically hurt.

Then, in the final voicemail, Morelli said, "You're gonna cause people to get hurt, so I'm gonna have to hurt you physically . . . I'm gonna make sure that, even if they lock me up, someone's gonna get you ‘cause I'll pay them to.'"

For these threats, Morelli has been sentenced to three months in prison and three years of supervised release.

The press release never states that Greene was the target of Morelli's voicemails. But, several reports have.

The Daily Caller reports, "Greene is seeking $66,632 in restitution from Morelli to defray the cost of shoring up security at her home consequent to Morelli’s threats."

The press release states that the judge overseeing the case has deferred the decision on the restitution to a later date.

Greene recently told the New York Post

The press keeps asking me about threats against Rep. [Ilhan] Omar, but none of them knew about this guilty plea for a threat against my life. Multiple people who want to kill me have been arrested, but the DC media doesn’t report it. It’s two-tiered justice and two-tiered coverage.
