Justice Sought For Slain Basketball Star, Former Coach Demands Killers Be Brought To Justice

The Omaha community and sports world are grappling with the tragic news of the murder of 21-year-old basketball prodigy Keah Paljor. This heartbreaking incident unfolded on October 12 near 29th and T streets in Omaha.

KETV reported that Keah Paljor was fatally shot last month, stirring widespread shock in both his local and sports communities.

Paljor was discovered with a gunshot wound in a residential area of Omaha. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Paljor succumbed to his injuries and passed away. This event has since triggered an intense investigation by local authorities.

A Coach's Reflection On A Star Player

Jai Steadman, the head men’s basketball coach at Independence, remembered Paljor as not only talented but also as a vibrant and dedicated young man.

"He was just a star. He came in every day smiling, came into work every single day," Steadman recalled, emphasizing how Paljor's positive demeanor was infectious among his teammates.

Paljor had aspired to play basketball professionally, and according to Steadman, he had the potential to achieve that dream. Steadman, who has experience coaching in the NBA G League and Europe, expressed his confidence in Paljor’s abilities to succeed professionally.

“I've coached in NBA G league, I coached in Europe, he would've played for money, his raw talent and it was coming together," he noted.

The sense of loss has deeply affected Steadman and the team. In honor of Paljor’s memory, his former teammates plan to wear his initials and jersey number throughout the season, a gesture to keep his spirit alive in the hearts of those who knew him best.

In response to this tragic event, the Omaha Police Department has been diligent in their pursuit of justice. They have issued a first-degree murder warrant for 22-year-old Dak Lam, who is suspected to be directly involved in Paljor’s murder.

However, specific details about the shooting have been closely guarded by the Omaha Police's homicide unit, and the ongoing investigation continues to unfold. As the community reels from this loss, there is a collective hope among Paljor's family, friends, and supporters that justice will soon be served.

Steadman shares this sentiment of seeking justice, reflecting a communal desire for resolution and peace. “Hopefully justice is done, you know they catch this individual," he stated, emphasizing his hope for closure through the legal process.

Heartfelt Regrets And Last Memories

The emotional toll of Paljor's death on his former coach is profound. "Devastated, heartbroken and you don't want to say it was because he was a special kid, but he was, he was a special, special young man," Steadman expressed, underscoring the deep bond he shared with Paljor.

Paljor’s final communication with his coach came just days before his tragic passing. "He texted my assistant, 'Hey, ask Stead if I can come back' and we were in Dallas two weeks ago, the morning it happened," Steadman shared, recalling his last indirect interaction with Paljor.

This missed opportunity for a reunion has left Steadman with regret, wishing he had one more chance to speak with Paljor.

“I wish I would've called you a day earlier. I wanted him back, I love you, you know I love you and KP, you'll always be in our hearts," Steadman reflected, his words laden with grief and unfulfilled possibilities.

As the investigation into Keah Paljor’s murder progresses, his memory continues to inspire those who knew him. The commitment to honor his legacy both on and off the basketball court speaks volumes about his impact. While the search for his killer continues, the hope for justice remains a poignant chapter in the lives of his loved ones.
