After the 2020 election wrapped up, there were all kinds of investigations and charges levied.
One of the more interesting cases, and one that Democrats said proved there was a plot to overturn the election, was the fake electors plot.
Well, that case has just been dismissed by a Michigan judge.
After the election, a group supportive of Trump allegedly created a slate of fake electors to try to nullify Biden’s win.
From the reports I saw, then-Vice President Pence was approached, but he refused to cooperate with them.
Reports linked Trump to the plot, but Trump was never charged, and he denied any knowledge of the plot.
The schemes were concocted in all the battleground states Trump lost during the election: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
In the Michigan case, charges were brought against more than a dozen people.
James Renner reportedly turned witness, but the other 15 individuals charged decided to roll the dice in the case.
Prosecutors were tasked with proving that the electors knew they were breaking the law when they signed the certificates.
Renner, however, had maintained that it was not the case, and it would appear that the court believed him.
Judge Kristen Simmons, who was appointed by Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer, dropped a bombshell on Democrats this week, dismissing the case in Michigan, believing the defendants were not acting with criminal intent when they put names to paper.
She ruled, "This is a fraud case, and we have to prove intent, and I don't believe that there's sufficient evidence to prove intent.”
Simmons continued, "I believe that they were executing their constitutional right to seek redress, and that's based on the statements of all of the people's witnesses. For those reasons, these cases will not be bound over to the circuit court. Each case will be dismissed."
This is an unbelievable win for these individuals, and I am sure Trump will take some satisfaction and tout this as another case of lawfare against his supporters. I have to admit, I am shocked a liberal judge dismissed this case, but I have to give her props for looking at the case solely on the merits of the charge and not her ideology, as we have seen far too often.
