Judge blocks deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago

Tell me who appointed the judge, and I can nearly predict with 100% accuracy how the case will go.

The legal challenge against Trump's ability to use Texas National Guard troops in Illinois went before a liberal judge, and, surprise, the president did not win the day.

Trump will fight the order, but I am not so sure that this court loss isn't ultimately for the best, and please, read on to let me explain what I mean.

Guard arrives in Chicago

This week, several hundred National Guard troops arrived in Chicago from Texas and set up just outside of the city at an Army training center.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker rejected the idea of having another state’s Guard run wild in their state, and the move was immediately challenged.

Johnson has been saying this is an “authoritarian” move by Trump as well as a “power grab,” and the media is eating it up.

For his part, Pritzker has stated that everything his fine in his state, and Trump is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Abbott chimes in

For those of you who don’t know, I live in Texas, and I did not like this move on Trump's part. I look at it this way… if a blue state governor sent his troops to Texas, I would be livid and call it overreach, so I would be hypocritical not to say it here.

I think the move feeds into every narrative that Dems are pushing right now, and I really think it will hurt the GOP as we move into these next two election periods. Ask me if I think Chicago is out of control, and I will tell you, “yes,” but I think a bigger federal law enforcement presence is far better than bringing in National Guard troops from another state.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott does not agree, stating of his counterpart in Illinois, "You may recall it wasn't too long ago that he put his left hand on a bible and raised his right hand and swore to God that he would support the Constitution of the United States as opposed to supporting it and allowing federal officials to enforce federal law."

Abbott added of Pritzker, “He's violating the Constitution, violating the oath that he took by interfering with the ability of federal officials to conduct the executive branch of the federal government.”

Blocked again

For now, the point is moot because a Biden-appointed judge, District Judge April Perry, has blocked Trump from being able to use the troops as desired. Her order prevents “the federalization and deployment of the National Guard of the United States within Illinois.”

She added, “I have seen no credible evidence that there is danger of rebellion in the state of Illinois.”

Perry continued, “Deportations are up. Arrests are up … The courthouse remains open and always has. Federal laws are being executed. They’re also being broken, as they have been since the beginning of time. There is no evidence that the president is unable, with the regular forces, to execute the laws of the United States.”

The thing that amazes me, and I have heard this repeatedly, is that these judges and Democrat leaders are saying that pushing back against these protests will only add fuel to the fire. Well, several agents could have been killed, so what do you want them to do? I would flood that state with every available agent I had and put them in camo gear if you want it to look like the military is involved, just don’t actually use the military. You take that approach, and all these bad headlines go away.
