It would appear that Speaker Johnson’s (R-LA) faith in holding the House in 2026 is beginning to wane to the point he is using a desperate measure to win back supporters.
Johnson is warning, and he is right, that Democrats will try to impeach Trump again if they retake the House.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had already threatened to impeach Trump after his ridiculous protest during Trump’s joint session of Congress address.
On May 15, 2015, Green announced to the House his intention of filing articles of impeachment against Trump.
In part, he stated, “The resolution states that the President has devolved American democracy into authoritarianism, with himself as the authoritarian. I address President Trump’s failure to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution by flouting constitutional law as well as the orders of federal courts, including the Supreme Court.
“A copy of my letter provides further explanation for why I am filing articles of impeachment against President Donald John Trump.”
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has made it quite clear that she is not interested in legislating, solely focused on taking down Trump.
During a recent interview, if she is put in charge of the House Oversight Committee, she stated, "I would absolutely. At least do an inquiry.
“Absolutely. I mean, I think that there's more than enough to inquire about. You know, we know. Well, we don't know."
I have been warning people about this ever since Donald Trump announced the pardons for the January 6 rioters, believing this would be used against him as a violation of the 14th Amendment.
I know a lot of Republicans were uneasy with Trump’s pardon for the January 6 rioters, but now Dems are piling on all kinds of other charges of corruption against Trump, which include accepting the plane from Qatar.
There is no sugarcoating this; Dems have a real case against Trump, especially in regard to the plane and the pardons, and it has Johnson concerned that Trump will be stopped dead in his tracks.
To that point, he stated, “If the Democrats took over control of the House, I guarantee you that they would try to impeach President Trump in the first week of that new Congress in January ’27, and that would be a disaster for the country, for our public policy, for the economy, and everything else.”
This is a panic move, in my opinion, as the GOP should be touting accomplishments, not fears. That is what Dems do... vote for us to avoid the bad orange man. The GOP needs to get together and work out this spending bill, then knock it out of the part for the next 12 months or this is going to be a replay of 2019.
