When Speaker Johnson (R-LA) won the election for Speaker, I questioned how effective he could be. If we are being honest, the GOP “settled” because there were too many internal fights to get the gavel into the right person’s hand.
Now, we are seeing the House fall into chaos, and it is the little things that show a crack in the foundation that truly worry me. And if, by some miracle, the GOP holds the House in 2026, we really need to explore a new candidate in this role.
The Epstein files have been a real embarrassment from top to bottom.
Conservatives were promised transparency on the files, but we are not getting it.
Now, there is a bipartisan movement to have the complete files released, but GOP leadership is pushing back, encouraging members not to sign the petition. I have even read reports that the Trump administration is threatening members who do sign the petition, declaring they will be enemies of the administration.
Nobody expects victims’ names or details, but we do expect to know the culprits. So before you roast me for calling out the Trump administration and Johnson on this, think of the damage that will be done if we see high-profile Trump donors or other Republicans in those files. That will bring this whole train to a screeching halt.
If there was ever a resolution that I thought would be supported by every Republican, it was one to censure Rep. McIver (D-NJ), who appeared to strike an agent at an ICE facility.
Her alleged actions were caught on video, yet enough Republicans joined the Democrat effort to block her censure, only feeding her narrative that the DOJ has been weaponized against her. How does Johnson put a motion on the floor that he is not 100% sure will pass?
After the measure failed, McIver stated, “We were all elected to do the people’s work. I take that responsibility seriously—Clay Higgins clearly does not.
“Instead of making life any better for the people he represents, he’s seeking to punish me for doing what he and his caucus are too cowardly to do: conduct real oversight, stand up to this administration, and do our jobs.”
Now, we are seeing conspiracy theories being pitched by members of the caucus. And in all honesty, they could be true, but wait to talk about them until you have absolute proof.
Rep. Anna Paulian Luna (R-FL), however, is spouting off about Epstein being a foreign agent, stating, “Epstein’s network was described as an international trafficking network to all members of Congress who were present (both Democrat and Republican) and also involved trafficking women from Slavic nations as well. Immigration fraud, etc. Many of those women have stayed silent due to fear of retribution.”
Again, this may actually be true, but it is far too early to be throwing allegations out like this, because if she is not right, she just adds fuel to the fire of Democrats calling the entire GOP a bunch of lunatic conspiracy theorists.
This is embarrassing, quite frankly, and Johnson has to get a grip on the caucus or we are going to get crushed during midterms. Honestly, I am still in utter shock that they could not get the censure measure passed. I cannot wait to hear the justification from the GOP members who voted with Democrats on that one.
