Joe Scarborough asserts that former President Donald Trump "really thinks he's running against Obama," a clip from MSNBC's Morning Joe revealed. A montage appeared to show Trump railing against former President Barack Obama using President Joe Biden's record.
The program began with clips of Trump using Obama's name in place of Biden's and also of him mixing up other people. Scarborough called one where he confused former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "disturbing."
Perhaps there is some merit to pointing these out as the 2024 election season begins in the name of fairness. However, where Scarborough eventually lands gives away the game that it's anything but.
Scarborough began with Trump's GOP opponents like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Haley, who have made remarks about Trump's mental acuity. In the past, DeSantis said Trump has "lost more than a step," while Haley has also alluded to his decline.
"You see him go through a speech, and he struggles as he starts to say Obama, and then he cuts himself off because his mind is going, wait, is Obama really President? What decade am I in?" Scarborough said.
"I can tell you Joe Biden knows where he is. He knows what decade he’s in," the co-host laughably claimed.
"He sure as hell knows who he’s running against. There’s just really no comparison here," Scarborough added.
It's clear that Scarborough is attempting to draw a comparison between Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, to take the heat off of the very real and very obvious problems the president is experiencing. "You want to talk about who’s addled?" Scarborough said.
"This is an easy one. Let’s talk about who’s addled. And who’s addled is a guy who can’t even remember that Barack Obama hasn’t been President of the United States in eight years," Scarborough claimed.
At least co-host Mika Brzezinski acknowledged something closer to an explanation, namely that he's been under a "mountain of legal action against this man, just crushing him and making him so stressed that he’s literally confused." Politico's Jonathan Lemire couldn't deal with anything so rational, unfortunately.
"And of course, he launched his political career on the back of the racist lie of birtherism, which, of course, involves Barack Obama," Lemire said. "Much of his 2015, 2016 campaign was against the Obama, Hillary Clinton access to the Democratic Party," he added.
"Anyone who spends any time with Trump, his close advisers acknowledge he’s sort of almost fossilized with 2016, like a bug preserved in amber, if you will....He’s just never moved past 2016," Lemire said.
MSNBC is attempting to downplay what was clear as recently as September when when more than half of voters polled said they were concerned with Biden's cognitive health, The Hill reported. While 52.2% worried about Biden, only 38.2% had similar concerns about Trump.
All of this is purely an attempt by the network to downplay Biden's repeated gaffes, confusion, and even weird behavior. Because the leftists at MSNBC can't prop up their own candidate with anything true, the only thing left is to paint Biden's opponent with the same brush.
