Joe Biden's Supreme Court pick sides with conservatives in gun case

Biden Supreme Court pick Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson sided with conservative justices in a recent gun case.

The 9-0 ruling determine that some people convicted of gun crimes can receive reduced prison sentences, according to the ruling.

Jackson's decision

“Congress could certainly have designed the penalty scheme at issue here differently. But Congress did not do any of these things. And we must implement the design Congress chose,” Jackson wrote.

"The case involves two subsections of 18 U.S.C. 924. Subsection (c) outlines offenses and penalties, and states that 'no term of imprisonment imposed on a person under this subsection shall run concurrently with any other term of imprisonment imposed on the person,'" the Epoch Times reported.

The case

"Efrain Lora, who filed a lawsuit challenging the statute, was found guilty of aiding and abetting an individual involved in drug trafficking or a violent crime while carrying or using a firearm. Lora was also convicted of conspiracy to distribute drugs," the Conservative Brief reported.

"Lora, along with three accomplices, was involved in cocaine trafficking and committed a murder of a rival drug dealer in 2002 in New York City, stemming from a territorial dispute," it added.

Attacking the court

The case comes as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called for term limits for Supreme Court justices.

"Here we have a body ... chosen for life. Never have to run for office. Nominated, confirmed for life, with no accountability for their ethics behavior," she stated.

The former House speaker also spoke out against the court's decision to over Roe v. Wade last year which allows states to make law about abortion.

The strong attacks on the court by leading Democrats show that the push for change in the nation's highest court will be a key theme for the 2024 election. Both Biden and other Democrats will be expected to address issues related to court justices as the current conservative majority continues to rule against the efforts of the left.

Despite Biden adding another justice, the left seems focused on more change that will help its agenda in the days ahead as Jackson and other liberal justices side with conservative justices on the latest gun rights case.
