Joe Biden's embarrassing slip-up at LGBTQ rights forum in DC

A former president, in the twilight of his career, flubs the name of his own country in front of a packed audience.

The New York Post reported that former President Joe Biden, now 83, stumbled spectacularly during a keynote address at an LGBTQ rights forum in Washington, D.C., hosted by the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute on Friday afternoon, mispronouncing "America" as "Amerigotit" while also battling through a 20-minute speech riddled with verbal missteps.

This wasn’t just a one-off blunder; it’s the latest in a string of incidents that have fueled serious concerns about Biden’s health and mental sharpness during his final year in office.

During the event, Biden was honored with the Chris Abele Impact Award for what organizers called one of the most inclusive administrations in U.S. history.

Yet, the applause couldn’t drown out the awkwardness when he declared, “As long as we keep the faith, some hope and get back up and remember who in the hell we are — we are the United States of Amerigotit,” as reported from his speech.

That’s right, “Amerigotit”—a slip that might’ve been comedic if it weren’t so concerning given the context of his age and health struggles.

Health Issues Loom Over Legacy

Back in February 2024, Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, insisted the former president was “fit to serve” after a routine checkup, as per the doctor’s public statement.

But just months later, in May 2024, Biden revealed a devastating diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, with doctors finding a small nodule and other cancer cells that had reportedly gone undetected by his medical team.

This bombshell, paired with earlier public stumbles like a disastrous debate performance against President Trump in June 2024, led to Biden stepping away from the election race in July 2024.

Since leaving the White House in January 2025, Biden has largely stayed out of the spotlight, surfacing only for medical updates and select appearances like this forum.

Meanwhile, the GOP-led House Oversight Committee is digging into whether Biden’s mental state and even his use of an autopen were obscured by those closest to him—a probe that suggests deeper questions about transparency.

It’s hard not to wonder if the public was ever given the full picture while he was still in power.

Policy Critiques Amid Personal Struggles

During his speech, Biden didn’t shy away from political jabs, accusing “MAGA Republicans” of trying to “distort and derail our fight for equality” and claiming the Trump administration framed gay rights as something “scary” and “sinister,” as quoted from his address.

While his passion for the issue is clear, many conservatives might argue that such rhetoric oversimplifies a complex cultural debate, ignoring legitimate concerns about policy overreach in the name of progressive agendas.

Still, one can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for a man clearly battling personal health demons while trying to cement his legacy—though that doesn’t erase the need for accountability on these very real verbal and cognitive lapses.
