Jim Jordan threatens FBI director with contempt of Congress

Earlier this year, the FBI stonewalled Republican-led House committees regarding subpoenas for items it needed for various investigations.

FBI Director Christopher Wray received intense criticism as a result, and according to Breitbart, it looks like he could soon answer for the actions of the bureau.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) threatened to hold Wray in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with the congressional subpoenas.

The Republican chairman fired off a letter on Monday informing Wray that his actions will be held accountable if the FBI doesn't improve its compliance "substantially."

"On February 3, 2023, the Committee issued a subpoena to you for documents and information regarding the FBI’s targeting of concerned parents who speak out at school board meetings. Similarly, on April 10, 2023, the Committee issued a subpoena to you for documents and information related to the FBI’s profiling of traditional Catholics as domestic extremists," Jordan wrote.

Jordan added, "To date, the FBI’s compliance with these subpoenas has been wholly inadequate and has materially impeded the Committee’s oversight efforts."

"@Jim_Jordan threatens to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress for the Bureau's failure to comply with the Committee's subpoenas," the House Judiciary Committee tweeted.

The letter came in the wake of a lively House hearing last week during which Wray was grilled by Jordan and other House Republican lawmakers regarding a number of FBI-related controversial issues.

"Here’s what’s truly unbelievable. Here’s what’s amazing." Jordan said at the time.

"The Justice Department and the FBI want the taxpayers they censored, the parents they labeled, the Catholics they called radicals, they want them to pay for a new FBI headquarters and they want FISA [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] reauthorization of the 702 form in its current form. … I mean you can’t make this stuff up."

Several House Republican lawmakers have already issued calls for Wray's impeachment, among other top key officials in President Joe Biden's administration.

Only time will tell if Jordan will press on with the contempt charge. Republicans vowed prior to the 2022 election that they would take more action than ever before, and hopefully they follow through on that promise.
