Jim Jordan claims Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas may have committed perjury

Rep. Jim Jordan sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Tuesday that suggested he may have lied under oath.

Jordan referred in the letter to testimony on July 26 over comments about migrants crossing the southern border.

The accusations

“On July 26, 2023, during testimony before the Committee, you repeatedly stated that aliens who are encountered at the southwest U.S. border are screened and vetted by Department of Homeland Security personnel. When pressed about the status of the record number of aliens on the terrorist watchlist who have been encountered since President Biden took office, you reiterated that ‘individuals that present a national security or public safety threat are detained and are a priority for removal," Jordan wrote in the letter.

“Your assertions seemed incredible at the time, and now recent press reports appear to confirm that the Department is not securing the border from terrorists who pose a direct threat to our national security," he added.

Another legal issue

The letter comes as Mayorkas has also been subpoenaed over issues related to Hunter Biden.

"House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer subpoenaed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and several DHS and Secret Service officials for documents and testimony related to the Secret Service’s alleged tip-off of the Biden transition team regarding a planned Hunter Biden tax probe interview in 2020, while also accusing the agencies of obstructing a congressional investigation," Fox News reported.

"Fox News Digital exclusively obtained letters and the subpoenas sent to Mayorkas and Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Tuesday," it added.

Central Asian migrants

Mayorkas also faces questions about Asian migrants smuggled into the U.S. through the southern border.

"The National Security Council (NSC) confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that U.S. officials have been made aware of 'a human smuggling network working to facilitate the travel of Uzbek nationals to the United States.'

"NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson also said that one overseas member of the network was linked to 'a foreign terrorist organization,'" it added.

The situation continues to worsen for Mayorkas as he seeks to defend himself against the record number of migrants crossing the southern border and the dangers the situation poses for the nation.
