Jim Jordan argues that it is time for the party to come together against Democrats.

As House Republicans struggle to regain their momentum after a historic move to vacate the position of Speaker of the House, one of the candidates is urging his party to rally against Democrats.

In a letter that was sent out on Monday, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and likely next Speaker of the House, Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), urged House Republicans to band together against Democrats in the midst of the ongoing contest for the position of Speaker of the House.

“The principles that unite as Republicans are far greater than the disagreements that divide us. And the differences between us and our Democrat colleagues vastly outweigh our internal divisions,” Jordan wrote in the letter.

“The country and our conference cannot afford us attacking each other right now. It is time we unite to get back to work on behalf of the American people.”

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, announced on Monday that he would vote for Jordan on the House floor, paving the way for the Republican nominee for Speaker.

Rogers had repeatedly favored working with Democrats rather than Jordan to establish a government of unity.

Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), who had previously criticized Jordan's candidacy for Speaker, also declared her support for him on Monday.

Jordan stated in his letter that he has had conversations with a large number of members who have expressed their dissatisfaction with the removal of Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House.

The lawmakers have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the "treatment" of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise's (R-LA) quest for Speaker of the House, as well as the lack of direction for how the House Republican Conference should proceed moving ahead.

The representative from Ohio stated that he would work on uniting all of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, "empower"  committees and committee chairs to restore "regular order," and assist in the passage of legislation to fund the government.

He concluded in the letter, “Our Republican vision for America is grounded in boundless optimism. America is a nation of explorers and risk-takers.

"There is nothing that the United States can’t achieve and no limit to our nation’s success. As Republicans, we innately believe these things. When Republicans come together, there is no measure to what we can achieve for the American people.”
