Jim Acosta, a former CNN anchor known for being humiliated by President Donald Trump, has announced his departure from CNN and the launch of an independent program titled "The Jim Acosta Show."
Fox News reported that Acosta's departure marks a significant shift as his exit from CNN marks just how badly his career has gone since being shut down by Trump during a viral press conference in Trump's first term.
Jim Acosta, who began his journey with CNN in 2007, gained notable attention for his confrontational stances while covering both the Obama and Trump administrations.
Now his nearly two-decade-long career at CNN is over and he is going to try and make it as an independent journalist in a space that isn't kind to regime propogandists.
In explaining his decision to leave the network, Acosta addressed allegations that he was targeted by the Trump administration and its MAGA allies. They aimed to forcefully remove him from the media landscape.
Despite these tensions, Acosta remains undeterred and insists that he will not be silenced. This sentiment is exemplified in his defiant remark to Trump and his allies, stating that they may have believed they had silenced his voice, but he is ready to launch his new show.
While Acosta may be defiant and undeterred, there is no doubt that Trump won this fight as Trump is starting his 2nd term in the White House while Acosta is out at CNN.
Under the leadership of CNN CEO Mark Thompson, there were reports of an offer to switch Acosta's slot from its original 10 a.m. ET to a significantly later midnight hour. CNN's new programming lineup did not feature him, which influenced his decision to exit the network and pursue his independent project.
The response from Trump to Acosta's exit was direct and critical. The former president dismissed him as one of the worst reporters, attributing CNN's timeslot change to bad ratings and a lack of talent.
However, Acosta was quick to counter these remarks with characteristic sarcasm, quipping that Trump might suffer from what he called "Acosta Derangement Syndrome."
Acosta believes in maintaining the press's role as a watchdog over those in power. He emphasized the need to hold on to truth and hope amidst a climate he views as plagued by lies and fear. As he embarks on this new venture, Acosta urges others not to cave to intimidation.
Reflecting on his time with CNN, Acosta decided not to accept the alternative timeslot that he described as insufficient, showcasing his unwillingness to "bow down" to "tyrannical pressures."
Acosta saw the new programming as a slight against him which it likely was as CNN pivots from hosting rabidly anti-Trump figures to more moderate voices.
Acosta had a successful career working at CNN but his fall from grace should serve as a warning to other rabid leftists about the risks of being a propogandist for Democrats.
It seems unlikely that Acosta will be able to gain a following in the independent online space as his views will be challenged consistently should he continue to peddle baseless anti-Trump claims.
