Hold onto your hats, folks—Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett has dropped a bombshell theory about Republicans potentially rigging the 2026 midterm elections with voting machines.
According to the Daily Caller, the crux of the story is that Crockett, alongside other Democratic voices, is sounding alarms over the recent purchase of Dominion Voting Systems by a GOP-connected figure, Scott Leiendecker, and the possibility of election interference, though no hard evidence backs these claims.
Let’s rewind to October, when Scott Leiendecker, a former GOP election reform advocate and founder of Liberty Vote, acquired Dominion Voting Systems under some eyebrow-raising conditions.
Part of the deal hinged on dropping lingering lawsuits against prominent conservatives and One America News Network, which naturally fuels skepticism about the motives behind this purchase.
Leiendecker has positioned himself as a champion of transparency, promising in a press release that Liberty Vote will usher in a “new chapter for American elections” focused on security and simplicity.
He told the Daily Caller, “Every legacy system is under review,” assuring that Liberty Vote would be fully American-owned and independently audited—a pledge that sounds noble but leaves room for doubt given the political ties.
Enter Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who, during a discussion on “Defending Democracy with Marc Elias,” speculated without proof that Leiendecker’s acquisition might be a setup for GOP meddling in the midterms.
“We do know that one of his friends has purchased Dominion,” Crockett said, referencing Leiendecker’s alleged closeness to President Donald Trump.
“So, it’s going to be really important for us to educate all states that we can to make sure that their secretary of states are like, ‘We don’t want the Dominion machines,’” she added, pushing a narrative of suspicion that’s hard to swallow without concrete facts.
Crockett isn’t alone in her concerns—Democratic media figures like Joy Reid and James Carville have also hinted at potential midterm rigging tied to recent GOP-backed legislation.
Reid remarked on a reconciliation bill signed by Trump, which extends 2017 tax cuts and boosts child tax credits, suggesting Republicans aren’t worried about reelection because “they know it’s going to devastate their states.” Her logic seems to imply a hidden ace up the GOP sleeve, but again, where’s the proof?
This bill, which also axes taxes on tips and overtime pay, has become a lightning rod for Democratic theories about Republican overconfidence, though it’s a stretch to connect tax policy to voting machine conspiracies.
Dominion’s own history doesn’t help ease tensions—after the 2020 election, the company pursued massive defamation lawsuits, securing a staggering $787.5 million settlement with Fox News in April 2023.
Newsmax Media Inc. also coughed up $67 million over three years for its coverage, reminding everyone that Dominion has been at the center of election controversies before, making it an easy target for speculation.
While Leiendecker’s promises of transparency are a step in the right direction, the lack of evidence on either side leaves this story as more of a political chess game than a clear scandal—yet it’s one worth watching as the midterms approach.
