Hunter Biden set to appear in front of federal court in California to set bail

Hunter Biden will appear before a federal court in California on Jan. 11 to face felony tax charges, Breitbart reported. The judge will then decide whether Biden may go free or not based on bail requirements.

The time leading up to the trial will allow both sides to mount their arguments. Biden is accused of nine different crimes, including failure to file tax returns, filing fraudulent returns, and failing to pay his tax liabilities.

The first hearing will sort out the specifics of the charges so the judge can decide on what the bail situation will be, Fox News reported. The judge will weigh whether the defendant is a flight risk and if he has made any threats against potential witnesses.

It's also up to the court to decide whether Biden is a danger to the community before he's set free. This decision will rest in the hands of Judge Alka Sagar in Roybal Courtroom 640 in Los Angeles.

The charges against Biden stem from an alleged "four-year scheme" in which Biden failed to pay federal taxes on income made between January 2017 and October 2020.  He now owes $1.4 million in back taxes.

This comes after years of investigation by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was later named special counsel in the investigation. Biden faces six misdemeanors and three felonies in connection with Weiss's findings.

Meanwhile, Biden also faces a separate slate of charges in connection with the purchase of a firearm. Biden lied on his application about being a drug addict in order to obtain the firearm, and now he faces charges in connection with that decision.

The fact that he got away with it for so long likely comes from the protection afforded by his famous last name. Still, some seeking to defend Biden have attempted to use his notoriety as an excuse.

"Based on the facts and the law, if Hunter’s last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought. First, U.S. Attorney Weiss bowed to Republican pressure to file unprecedented and unconstitutional gun charges to renege on a non-prosecution resolution," Biden defense attorney Abbe Lowell claimed earlier this month.

"Now, after five years of investigating with no new evidence -- and two years after Hunter paid his taxes in full – the U.S. Attorney has piled on nine new charges when he had agreed just months ago to resolve this matter with a pair of misdemeanors." However, at least two whistleblowers have an explanation for Weiss's investigation turning up so little after so much time.

IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler testified to Congress that the Department of Justice carefully steered during the investigation into Hunter Biden's corruption, the New York Post reported. Weiss, then acting only as Delaware U.S. Attorney, refused to bring felony charges in California and Washington, D.C., despite evidence that it was appropriate.

Shapley said that the Department of Justice prevented Weiss from following protocol in that instance despite protestations that it was his own conclusion. "That is in their manual, that you have to charge the felony in order to avoid the inequitable treatment of taxpayers," Shapley explained.

The favoritism eventually came to light after a sweetheart plea deal for the younger Biden fell apart under scrutiny by a judge. Shapley further asserted that whenever the trail led back to Hunter Biden's father, President Joe Biden, they were called off.

Despite all of that maneuvering behind the scenes, it appears Hunter Biden will have his day in court to face the music. Without the protection of his father's Justice Department, Hunter Biden is in for some serious trouble.
