As part of a child support case, an Arkansas judge ordered Hunter Biden to disclose information about his art sales and investment income, while his attorneys claimed he had already paid $750,000 to the mother of his estranged daughter.
In August of 2018, the infant of Hunter Biden and Lunden Alexis Roberts was born in Arkansas, according to The Washington Examiner.
Navy Joan Roberts, who is now four years old, was conceived while he was in a relationship with Hallie Biden, the widow of his brother Beau Biden.
Although Hunter Biden denied paternity, a DNA test demonstrated with nearly absolute certainty that he was the father.
According to CNN, Judge Holly Lodge Meyer stated on Monday that Roberts and Hunter Biden must appear for depositions in June, and that the president's son must also answer detailed questions about his income.
The New York Post reported on Monday that Hunter Biden would be required to respond in writing to inquiries regarding his current financial situation, including all of his investments, art sales, and other pertinent financial transactions.
Hunter Biden appeared in court in Arkansas on Monday per the judge's orders, but he did not speak.
“Mr. Biden is paying the plaintiff $20,000 a month,” Hunter Biden's lawyer Abbe Lowell told the court on Monday, according to the Daily Mail.
In December, a lawyer for the mother, Lunden Alexis Roberts, claimed before the court that "the defendant is attempting to stifle discovery into his financial affairs while simultaneously reducing his child support obligation on the claim that he now earns less income." Clinton Lancaster was the attorney who made this argument.
Hunter Biden has submitted a request to reduce the amount of child support that he is required to pay, and a hearing to determine whether or not the amount that he is required to pay may be modified is slated to begin in July.
On paper, the Arkansas case is a straightforward dispute over child support. Roberts' attorneys are outspoken GOP activists, and many of their requests for Hunter Biden's financial documents align with what House Republicans are also attempting to obtain.
The attorney for Roberts, Clint Lancaster, brought up Hunter Biden's painting sales, which have prompted conflict-of-interest concerns and are also being investigated by the House Oversight Committee.
"It is impossible" for the art sales to unduly influence the Biden administration, according to Lowell, because “nobody up the chain knows” who the purchasers are.
Under an agreement with the White House, purchasers of Hunter Biden's paintings will be disclosed only to the gallery proprietor.
