Honoring Justice Amy Coney Barrett at Pepperdine Caruso Law Event

The Caruso School of Law at Pepperdine University is set to host its annual "Freedom in Truth: Caruso School of Law Dinner" on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This year’s event will take place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, marking a significant occasion for the law school community.

The dinner will feature Justice Amy Coney Barrett of the Supreme Court of the United States as its prominent guest.

Justice Barrett, who has served on the U.S. Supreme Court since October 27, 2020, following her nomination by former President Donald J. Trump, is the centerpiece of the evening.

Her participation adds prestige to an event that is already recognized as one of the most significant gatherings for the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law community.

A Celebration of Success and Community

The Freedom in Truth dinner will bring together alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the Caruso School of Law. The evening aims to celebrate the successes of the law school while fostering a sense of community and showcasing the school’s future ambitions. As one of Pepperdine’s premier events, it offers attendees the chance to reflect on the progress made and the goals ahead.

Paul Caron, the Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean of the Caruso School of Law, will also be in attendance. Caron, alongside law professors Babette Boliek and Trey Childress, will help guide the event's programming, highlighting the school's mission of fostering both legal excellence and service to others.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett brings a wealth of experience and legal expertise to the event. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Barrett's legal career has been marked by numerous high-profile roles.

She began her judicial career after being appointed as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 2017. Before that, she served as a law clerk to both Judge Laurence H. Silberman of the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit and the late Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Her time spent in private law practice in Washington, DC, and as a faculty member at Notre Dame Law School, where she joined in 2002, have further solidified her reputation as a leading legal mind. Barrett’s extensive legal career, combined with her work as a Supreme Court Justice, makes her presence at the Pepperdine dinner particularly notable.

A Prestigious Gathering at the Fairmont Century Plaza

The dinner’s location at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles sets the tone for what promises to be an elegant and thought-provoking evening.

Attendees can expect to engage in discussions about the law school’s progress, its contributions to legal scholarship, and its dedication to shaping the next generation of legal professionals.

Justice Barrett’s participation aligns with the dinner’s theme of “Freedom in Truth,” a concept deeply tied to the values upheld by the Caruso School of Law. Her judicial philosophy and commitment to interpreting the Constitution have made her a key figure in shaping the legal landscape of the country.

The Caruso School of Law’s mission centers around providing its students with a rigorous legal education grounded in ethics and service.

This mission will be highlighted throughout the evening, as the school showcases its latest achievements, including student success stories and its commitment to the larger Pepperdine University mission of developing leaders of purpose, service, and leadership.

The dinner also serves as an opportunity to look ahead to the school’s future. By building on its successes, the Caruso School of Law aims to expand its influence and continue to produce graduates who will make significant contributions to the legal field.

A Look Toward the Future

As the law school reflects on its accomplishments, the Freedom in Truth dinner will provide a moment to recognize the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

In an ever-changing legal landscape, the Caruso School of Law remains committed to providing its students with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the legal system while remaining true to its mission of faith and service.

The evening’s discussions and programming are expected to inspire both current and future generations of law students, with Justice Barrett’s presence underscoring the importance of leadership and dedication in the legal profession.

Beyond the formal presentations, the Freedom in Truth dinner offers an opportunity for the law school’s community to engage in meaningful discussions about the future of the institution.

Alumni, students, and faculty will come together to share their experiences, insights, and hopes for the future of the Caruso School of Law.

Justice Barrett’s attendance highlights the importance of these connections, as her career serves as a reminder of the profound impact legal professionals can have on society. Her presence at the event is expected to resonate with attendees, particularly students who aspire to follow in her footsteps.
