Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will face impeachment vote on Jan. 30th

House Republicans could vote on articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as soon as Jan. 30th, the U.K. Daily Mail reported. Meanwhile, the White House is in crisis as President Joe Biden's impeachment inquiry proceeds with the evidence-gathering phase.

The Biden administration is facing a one-two punch of the impeachments as 2024 just begins. Congress is eager to push both along ahead of the presidential election season.

However, the sheer numbers at the U.S. border with Mexico have bolstered the case against Mayorkas, helping to move things along. In December, a record 300,000 illegal immigrants attempted to make their way into the U.S. while Mayorkas continued to fumble the issue.

This adds to more than a million migrants who have been admitted into the U.S. using Biden's catch-and-release system. Even with efforts to initiate record deportation in the works, it hasn't taken the heat off of Mayorkas.

With the help of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), the effort to impeach Mayorkas has gained momentum recently. After just two public hearings and a little more than a week, the Homeland Security Committee is ready to vote on articles of impeachment at the end of the month.

The next stop will be the House floor, and Republicans have a straightforward case for Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors. The crisis at the border and his failure to do anything about it all but seals the deal for him.

Meanwhile, the GOP is still mounting the case against Biden with additional witnesses and evidence. Hunter Biden, the president's son, will finally sit for a Capitol Hill deposition on Feb. 28 to testify about his shady business dealings and perhaps his father's role in them, the Associated Press reported.

"The president’s son is a key witness in this investigation and he’s gonna be able to come in now and sit down and answer questions in a substantive, orderly manner," House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said. This comes after months of negotiations and a contempt of Congress threat.

Other witnesses who were close to Hunter Biden's business affairs are also on the slate in the coming weeks. While this effort is steadily underway, there's an urgency about the Mayorkas impeachment, as Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) told Maria Bartiromo this week on Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News.

"This one man is the architect of destruction down here. One man has caused all this chaos, deaths from fentanyl poisoning, danger to the country with terrorists coming in, and 8 million encounters with no legal status," McCaul said.

"He is the architect. He has destroyed the fabric of this nation," he added.

"The founding fathers talked about breach of public trust was sufficient for impeachment, and we intend to go forward. Chairman Mark Green is doing a great job," McCaul said of the Tennessee Republican.

"We're working together. Articles of impeachment [on] January 31st, and we will impeach him after that," McCaul promised.

The Biden administration is facing a tough road ahead in 2024 with both impeachment efforts nipping at their heels. Even if neither is expected to result in removal from office, the support they're getting should be a clear warning to Democrats of what's to come.
