HHS surveying federal workers about DEI policies under Biden administration

Washington’s bureaucracy just got a reality check. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a probe into diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) directives from the Biden era, sending a “whistleblower questionnaire” to staff to uncover potential discrimination. This move signals a sharp pivot from progressive orthodoxy, and it’s about time.

Newsmax reported that HHS distributed the questionnaire to examine DEI policies that may have led to disciplinary actions, resignations, or terminations under former President Joe Biden.

The survey, reported by Politico on July 7, 2025, stems from an executive order by President Donald Trump. It’s a bold step to question the sacred cow of DEI.

The email, as Politico revealed, contained five-pointed questions. Staff were asked if they knew of employees passed over for promotions due to race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics during Biden’s tenure. Such inquiries cut through the haze of feel-good policies to expose their real-world fallout.

Trump’s Executive Order Sparks Action

President Trump’s executive order, issued on January 20, 2025, set this survey in motion. Titled “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,” it demands accountability for policies that may have gone off the rails.

HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon confirmed the survey aligns with this directive, but don’t expect the left to cheer. Nixon’s statement frames the survey as a response to Trump’s call for reform, yet it’s more than bureaucratic housekeeping.

It’s a challenge to the dogma that DEI automatically equals fairness. The progressive crowd might clutch their pearls, but asking hard questions isn’t a sin—it’s a necessity.

The questionnaire also probed whether DEI initiatives caused discrimination against employees, contractors, or the public.

This isn’t just about internal gripes; it’s about whether these policies harmed the very people they claimed to help. The silence from DEI defenders is deafening.

One question zeroed in on employees disciplined or fired for resisting DEI mandates. If staff were punished for questioning the progressive agenda, that’s not inclusion—it’s coercion. HHS is right to dig into whether ideological conformity trumped merit.

Another query asked about promotions denied due to immutable traits like race or gender. If true, such practices would expose DEI as a hollow promise, rewarding identity over ability. The irony of “equity” breeding unfairness isn’t lost on conservatives.

The survey’s scope includes contractors and the public, suggesting DEI’s ripple effects went beyond federal offices. Policies that alienate or discriminate don’t just hurt morale—they erode trust in government. HHS’s probe could reveal how deep the damage goes.

Unclear Outcomes, High Stakes

What HHS will do with the survey responses remains murky. Will findings lead to policy reversals or just a dusty report?

The lack of clarity fuels skepticism, but the mere act of asking these questions is a win for accountability.

Politico’s report didn’t speculate on outcomes, and neither should we. But conservatives hope this signals a broader push to dismantle programs that prioritize ideology over fairness. The left, meanwhile, will likely cry foul, claiming it’s an attack on progress.

DEI’s champions argue it corrects historical wrongs, but at what cost? When promotions hinge on skin color or dissenters are shown the door, the cure starts looking worse than the disease. HHS’s survey might just prove that point.

Trump’s executive order isn’t subtle, and neither is this survey. It’s a direct challenge to the Biden administration’s legacy of weaving DEI into every corner of government. Conservatives applaud the scrutiny, while progressives brace for a fight.
