Hersha Parady of 'Little House on the Prairie' stardom dead at 78

Fans of one of the most beloved classic television shows were saddened to learn of the loss of a TV star after a brutal brain tumor battle.

Little House on the Prairie actress Hersha Parady died at age 78, according to family members, PEOPLE reported.

In July, Parady's son, Jonathan Peverall, said, "This illness has robbed her of her strength, her memory, and sadly, her vibrant personality," referring to her battle with a brain tumor.

Peverall had launched a GoFundMe campaign earlier this year to afford his mother access to additional treatments in the hopes of seeing her condition improve.

"She has become largely bedridden, and it is very difficult to see my Mom, who was once full of life and energy, now struggling with basic daily activities," he wrote at the time.

"Upon seeing her condition during a recent visit to her home in Van Nuys, we decided to move her from Los Angeles to live with me and my family in Virginia, and while we are working to ensure she gets the medical help she needs, the costs associated with her care are mounting," he added.

He added, "From moving expenses to in-home nursing care, to medical equipment and more, the financial burden is significant. And with a full time job and three kids, providing her with the level of care she needs is difficult. Rest assured, we are taking care of her to the best of our ability, and we will continue to do so, regardless of any contributions made here."

For a short time, the situation looked promising given that she had undergone a successful surgery.

Unfortunately, her health took a turn for the worse, and she ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, ultimately being placed on a ventilator in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Fans of Parady reacted to the saddening news across social media, with many recalling fond memories of watching the hit TV show.

PEOPLE noted:

Parady joined Little House on the Prairie in its fourth season, which premiered in September 1977. The late actress was introduced as Alice Garvey alongside former NFL star Merlin Olsen, who played Alice's husband Jonathan Garvey. She remained on the popular NBC series through season 6, when her character died in a fire.

Parady, who made an indelible impression on TV viewers for years, is survived by her son, and by her siblings Patty, Kenny and Bobby.
