Greene and DOGE probe Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer fund usage

Taxpayer dollars are under scrutiny again. On June 13, 2025, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) subcommittee launched a sharp investigation into Planned Parenthood’s handling of federal funds. The probe, sparked by serious allegations, aims to uncover whether the organization is flouting federal law.

Greene’s team is digging into claims that Planned Parenthood misuses its hefty $792.2 million in taxpayer funds, received between 2023 and 2024, for abortions and hormone treatments for minors. The investigation was triggered by an undercover sting from Live Action, a pro-life group, alleging the organization offers cross-sex hormones to 16-year-olds with minimal oversight. It’s a bold move to hold a powerful player accountable.

Greene fired off a letter to Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson, demanding answers and non-public financial records from January 2020 to June 2025. The Hyde Amendment bans federal funds for abortions, and President Trump’s executive actions block them for underage sex change procedures. If true, these allegations could expose a major breach of trust.

Allegations of Misused Funds

“Planned Parenthood is increasingly using its resources to offer abortions,” Greene declared, noting the group’s 400,000-plus abortions performed between 2023 and 2024. That’s a 23% spike over a decade, despite 39% of their revenue—hundreds of millions—coming from federal funds meant for cancer screenings and wellness exams. The numbers raise eyebrows about priorities.

Planned Parenthood’s 45 affiliate health centers also provide “gender-affirming care,” including hormones for minors as young as 16 in some states, with parental consent. Greene’s letter calls this out, questioning if these services sneak into the “other procedures” category in reports. It’s a slippery slope when taxpayer money might bankroll controversial treatments.

Federal funds flow to Planned Parenthood through Title X, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Greene insists these must comply with strict regulations. If they don’t, it’s not just a policy hiccup—it’s a betrayal of public trust.

Scrutiny of Hormone Treatments

“Some Planned Parenthood health centers will provide cross-sex hormones to minors as young as 16,” Greene stated, highlighting inconsistent state policies. Live Action’s findings suggest lax parental consent and medical oversight in these cases. For conservatives, this smells like a progressive agenda sidestepping federal guardrails.

The investigation’s timing is no accident. Republicans, riding President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful, Bill,” are pushing to defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Greene’s probe could fuel that fire, exposing gaps in how taxpayer dollars are spent.

Planned Parenthood’s silence speaks volumes. They didn’t respond to requests for comment, leaving the allegations unchallenged for now. That’s a risky move when public funds are on the line.

Abortion Numbers Under Fire

“The latest Planned Parenthood annual report shows over 400,000 abortions,” Greene said, pointing to a steady climb from 392,000 the prior year. With abortions up 23% over 10 years, critics argue the organization leans too heavily on terminating pregnancies rather than preventive care. It’s a tough sell when taxpayers foot the bill.

Greene’s demand for detailed financial statements aims to peel back the curtain on Planned Parenthood’s operations. If federal funds are indirectly supporting abortions, it violates the Hyde Amendment’s clear boundaries. That’s not just a technicality—it’s a legal red line.

The DOGE subcommittee’s involvement adds muscle to the probe. Known for sniffing out government waste, DOGE’s backing signals this isn’t just political theater. They mean business.

Public Trust at Stake

“Federal funds provided to Planned Parenthood must comply with applicable laws,” Greene emphasized, underscoring the probe’s core mission. Title X, Medicaid, and CHIP dollars aren’t blank checks—they come with strings. If Planned Parenthood is cutting corners, the fallout could be seismic.

Republicans see this as a chance to rein in an organization they’ve long viewed as untouchable. Defunding efforts are gaining steam, and Greene’s investigation could tip the scales. It’s a high-stakes chess game with taxpayer money as the prize.

For now, Planned Parenthood faces a spotlight it can’t dodge. Greene and DOGE are asking hard questions about accountability, and the answers—or lack thereof—could reshape the debate. Conservatives hope this probe marks a turning point in the fight for fiscal and moral clarity.
