Four Senior House Democrats Suggest Biden End Reelection Bid

Several senior House Democrats are urging President Biden to terminate his reelection campaign following a lackluster debate performance.

Despite the push from within his party, Biden remains steadfast in his bid for a second term. Despite this, CBS News reported that the movement in the Democrat Party aimed at removing Biden only continues to strengthen.

Four prominent House Democrats—Jerry Nadler of New York, Mark Takano of California, Adam Smith of Washington, and Joe Morelle of New York—have recently conveyed their concerns to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries during a Zoom meeting, sources report.

This unprecedented move comes amid heightened anxiety about the President’s chances of securing a second term in office.

Discontent Growing Among Democrats

Additional Democratic representatives, such as Jim Himes from Connecticut, Don Beyer from Virginia, and Jamie Raskin from Maryland, have also voiced reservations about Biden’s viability as a candidate. Meanwhile, Beyer’s office has since clarified that he remains a supporter of Biden, seeking to quell any misunderstandings about his stance.

Beyer stated, "I support the Biden-Harris ticket, and look forward to helping defeat Donald Trump in November." He further emphasized his commitment by mentioning his active role in supporting the campaign.

He added, "I was proud to host an event this week in Northern Virginia with the President, and will continue doing all I can to support the Biden-Harris campaign in Virginia and across the country."

Rep. Susan Wild from Pennsylvania has also spoken out, highlighting the shared concerns among Americans regarding Biden's electability. She stated that these worries are widely held across the nation, shedding light on the internal tensions within the party.

She noted, "I expressed the same concerns that Americans across the country are grappling with, about President Biden's electability at the top of the ticket." Wild emphasized the importance of confidentiality in Democratic Caucus deliberations, condemning the leaks and rumors surrounding the issue.

Wild commented, "It is not helpful to the country for this difficult process to play out amidst leaks and rumors."

Democrats Splitting Over Biden

Wild continued to stress the diversity of opinions within the Democratic Caucus, framing the internal dialogue as a necessary part of the democratic process. "The Democratic Caucus in Congress is a very diverse group, and there are many opinions about what should next happen," she added.

She also maintained that these discussions should have confidentiality: "I've always felt it important that people are able to speak their minds in a confidential setting, so that we can all benefit from what others are thinking."

While articulating her concerns, Wild reiterated her commitment to prioritizing her constituents’ best interests in her decisions and public statements moving forward.

House Democratic leaders have been proactive, holding a call last week to navigate the increasing calls for Biden to consider stepping back. In this context, Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota has surfaced as the latest Democrat to call for Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Despite these internal disputes, President Biden remains resolute. He discussed his campaign strategy with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, affirming his intention to continue his presidential bid.

Biden's fortitude in the face of party pressure is evident in his statement: "If the Lord almighty came down and said 'Joe, get out of the race,' I'd get out of the race. The Lord almighty's not coming down."

On the other hand, Rep. Richard Neal of Massachusetts conveyed strong support for Biden. He pointed out Biden's previous victory over Trump in 2020 and expressed confidence in his ability to repeat the success.

Neal argued, "The bottom line is President Biden beat Trump in 2020, and now, bolstered by his historic record of success, he'll do it again in November."

Emphasizing the threat posed by Republicans, Neal opined, "Republicans are the biggest threat to the health of our democracy, our economy, and the people, and the President knows what's at stake. I'm with him all the way, fighting like hell to defeat those threats."

Conclusion:

In summary, key House Democrats have expressed concerns regarding President Biden's reelection campaign, impacting discussions within the party.

Notable representatives, while urging Biden to consider stepping down, emphasize diverse opinions within the Democratic Caucus. However, Biden, supported by key allies, remains determined to proceed with his campaign, confident in his ability to overcome Republican opposition.
