WBTV reported that Hines, who passionately served as a South Carolina Representative, passed away on Thursday. His death was announced by the chairman of the Florence County Democratic Party, marking a substantial loss for the community.

Over the years, Hines carved out a notable reputation through his extensive work for the residents of Florence and Marion counties.

Born and raised in Florence, Hines's commitment to his roots was apparent from the beginning. He acquired a Bachelor of Arts from Allen University in 1969, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity from the Morris College School of Religion. These academic achievements set the stage for a career that would span public service and education.

Focusing initially on education, Hines dedicated 12 productive years to teaching in the Florence 1 School District. His influence extended beyond the classroom, preparing him for a later role in legislative leadership.

From Scholarship to Legislative Achievements

In 1995, Mack T. Hines transitioned into a new realm as he took up office representing his local region in the South Carolina General Assembly. His tenure as a state representative spanned ten years, during which he was an ardent advocate for local issues and concerns.

Hines was particularly vocal about education and local governance, areas he was profoundly connected to through his previous experience and academic background. His legislative efforts were focused on enhancing the quality and accessibility of services for the people of Florence and Marion counties.

The contributions of Mack T. Hines were officially recognized in 2005 when the South Carolina General Assembly honored him with a resolution.

This accolade came as a recognition of his academic accomplishment upon earning a doctorate of ministry from Hood Theological Seminary. It evidenced the profound respect he commanded among his peers.

Isaac Wilson, the Florence County Democratic Party chairman, highlighted Hines’s tireless advocacy during his legislative years.

“Rep. Hines served from 1995-2005 advocating tirelessly for the people of Florence and Marion counties,” remarked Wilson.

Wilson also pointed out the high standard Hines set in public service: “His dedication and commitment to public service set a standard that inspired many,” he noted. These words reflect the deep admiration and respect Hines garnered from colleagues and community members alike.

"As we mourn his loss, let us also remember the legacy of service and the positive influence he had on our county and state," Wilson expressed. He emphasized that Hines’s legacy would continue to inspire and guide future generations in their efforts to improve community and governance.

Wilson also extended heartfelt condolences to Hines's family and friends: “His contributions will continue to guide us as we work towards a brighter future for all. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” he added.
