A Virginia man, previously serving as a Coast Guard officer, has been arrested for allegedly making alarming threats against former President Donald Trump, Fox News reported.
Peter Stinson, a former lieutenant with the United States Coast Guard, is facing serious charges after alleged threats surfaced on social media.
Stinson, who served in the Coast Guard from 1988 until 2021, has a background that includes being a sharpshooter and a FEMA instructor during his tenure. His alleged threats against Trump were detailed in an affidavit submitted by an FBI task force officer and shared across several social media platforms.
According to documents, Stinson allegedly posted on various platforms with disturbing rhetoric. On May 9, he reportedly suggested that Trump needed to be "Luigied," referencing Luigi Mangione, who was accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. This remark represents one of several threats involving guns, poison, and knives.
Although Stinson allegedly questioned whether he had the "necessary skills" for such actions, there remained ambiguity about the seriousness of his intentions. His social media activity also included references to "8647," a code connected to a post by former FBI Director James Comey, often interpreted as a threat to the former president.
Additional social media content comprised of 13 posts on Bluesky referencing the same number, intensifying concerns over his repeated motifs.
Stinson's involvement on social media also indicated a claimed association with ANTIFA. On February 2, he reportedly issued statements on his X account signaling an impending conflict: "This is war. Sides will be drawn. Antifa always wins in the end. Violence is inherently necessary."
This affiliation was further exemplified by his purported post on June 11: "When he dies, the party is going to be yuge." Such statements contributed to mounting worries surrounding his posts.
His online activities and self-identification as an ANTIFA member underline the potential motivation behind his alleged threats.
Following these events, Stinson has been formally charged with making threats against Trump. He is due to appear in federal court on Wednesday to address these charges.
The nature of these accusations highlights the ongoing concerns of extremist rhetoric on social media platforms. Authorities continue to monitor such communication closely.
While Stinson's claims on social media may appear vague at times, they underscore the broader issues of threatening language within digital spaces.
His legal proceedings are anticipated to shed further light on his actions and their potential consequences. The case continues to develop as more details become available.
