Former Biden White House aide identified as third crew member of downed Black Hawk

Capt. Rebecca M. Lobach, a former White House social aide, has been identified as one of the three soldiers who tragically lost their lives in a collision involving a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines jet at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport according to Breitbart.

The accident underscored the profound loss of valuable military personnel, captained by Rebecca Lobach and her distinguished colleagues, who selflessly served their nation.

The U.S. Army recently disclosed the identity of Capt. Lobach, but not before Lobach's family made an unusual request to keep her identity from the public which immediately ignited curiosity.

This immediately set off an inquiry into Lobach's identity until it was discovered that she had been a White House aide and all of her social media had been scrubbed by her family.

Capt. Lobach's Military and Social Contributions

Lobach, hailing from Durham, North Carolina, began her military journey as an ROTC graduate from the University of North Carolina.

She distinguished herself by ranking in the top 20 percent of cadets nationwide. During her service, she gained significant experience as both Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer.

Serving in the regular Army from July 2019 to January 2025, she was assigned to the 12th Aviation Battalion at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Her military prowess was obvious, with over 450 hours of flight time and certification as a pilot-in-command, an achievement that marked her dedication and expertise.

In her notable capacity as a White House social aide under the Biden administration, Lobach facilitated high-profile events. As recently as last month, she had the honor of escorting iconic fashion designer Ralph Lauren through the White House during a Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony.

Capt. Lobach's dedicated service earned her numerous accolades, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon. These honors are a testament to her unwavering commitment to her duties and the profound impact she had within the Army.

"Our deepest condolences go out to her family, and all the families who are mourning the loss of their loved ones impacted by this devastating accident," the Army stated, expressing their mourning and support in the wake of this tragedy.

The Army continues to engage with the families of those affected and supports ongoing investigations into the accident.

The tragic event also claimed the lives of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Eaves from Great Mills, Maryland, and Staff Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara from Lilburn, Georgia. Each soldier was recognized for their service, with details of their backgrounds highlighting the caliber of individuals lost.

Family and National Mourning for a Remarkable Life

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca," the Lobach family shared in their public statement.

They remembered her vividly as a shining light who impacted all who knew her through her kindness, humor, and ambition.

Rebecca was not just a soldier or social aide; she was deeply cherished as a daughter, sister, partner, and friend. "Her life was short, but she made a difference in the lives of all who knew her," her family reflected, honoring the numerous roles she fulfilled in her life.

The familial grief mirrored the nation's mourning for the loss of these soldiers. "Our hearts break for the other families who have lost loved ones in this national tragedy and we mourn with them," the family expressed, extending their empathy and solidarity with the other grieving families.

The Army has assured ongoing support to the families and promised thorough investigations to understand the causes of the crash. It is a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with military aviation and underscores the valor of those who serve in complex operations.
