Former Acting U.S. Solicitor General claims Donald Trump would have been indicted for mishandling documents if he were anyone else

Former Acting U.S. Solicitor General Neal Katyal claims that former President Donald Trump's mishandling of classified documents would have resulted in an indictment for anyone else, Breitbart reported. Katyal said this on MSNBC's "Deadline" Friday.

The Department of Justice is currently probing the matter in yet another attempt to take out Trump, this time using a recording of the former president stating he didn't declassify the documents he took with him. Katyal, an Obama administration official, eagerly anticipates Trump's demise.

“Trump is his own worst enemy when it comes to his legal troubles. He opens his mouth and all sorts of ways that implicate him even further," Katyal said.

"The relevance of this whole story and this tape is not for the document itself.  It’s about it goes to Trump’s state of mind," Katyal added.

"The defense he’s been articulating ever since the search on Mar-a-Lago is 'I declassified this stuff in my mind, I had a standing order. I took stuff out of the White House and it was automatically declassified,'" Katyal said of Trump's defense until now.

"Here he’s saying there is a document I took out on the White House, and that document is classified. Therefore, I can’t show it to you. That blows a hole in the defense," Katyal eagerly claimed.

“If this were any other person and they had admitted to what Donald Trump already admitted to, they’ll be in jail. That is not a hard case," Katyal said.

"That is why ultimately, I think the trajectory of this investigation based on everything we have seen and how the case gets stronger and stronger with new pieces of information makes it very hard for Jack Smith to do anything else but to indict because if it were anyone else, there would be an indictment already," Katyal added. However, this sounds very much like wishful thinking.

The Justice Department claims it has audio of Trump admitting he was in possession of classified documents after leaving the White House, The Hill reported. The recording is from 2021, and Trump allegedly said he retained documents relating to an attack on Iran.

The FBI raided Trump's private Mar-o-Lago residence in August of 2022 on the premise of recovering classified documents. Like other supposed evidence for the myriad witch hunts perpetrated by the left, this claim appears to be overblown.

"I don’t know anything about it. All I know is this: Everything I did was right," Trump told Sean Hannity during a town hall in Iowa Thursday.

"When you look at it, it’s another, it’s a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time. It’s a hoax," Trump later said.

"And it has to do more than anything else with trying to interfere with the election," he added. Trump is currently the front-runner for the Republican nomination.

Trump is facing attacks from all angles as he heads into a contentious battle for the presidency. Whether the classified documents will take him down or turn out to be another dead end is still unknown, but it's clear the left won't stop until they succeed.
