Fears grow that Michelle Obama would go soft on criminals like Barack Obama

There are still many who believe that due to President Joe Biden's seemingly dwindling chances of winning a general election later this year, he could be replaced with a more viable Democratic candidate.

While there are plenty of schools of thought on who that might be, some believe it could be former first lady Michelle Obama who has the best chance at beating former President Donald Trump in November.

The obvious downfall of having a possible Michelle Obama presidency is that she would likely run the country similarly to her husband, which means continued soft-on-crime policies and related dangers.

Michelle Obama has claimed that she hates politics and would rather focus on other ventures, like being a mom, but as a New York Post piece noted recently, Michelle Obama has been involved in politics nearly all of her life, in many different ways, and likely has her sights set on the White House.

What's happening?

President Barack Obama was highly criticized for granting clemency requests and similar actions, and Michelle Obama would likely act in the same manner.

Take, for instance, Joseph Bargos, who was sentenced to prison for large-scale drug-related offenses and later granted clemency by Barack Obama in 2015.

As career criminals usually do, Bargos ignored the second chance at having a normal life and returned to what he knew. According to Law and Crime, Bargos was just sentenced to prison for doing the same thing that put him in the slammer back then -- smuggling large amounts of drugs.

The scariest part? Bargos was one of a staggering 1600 people granted a commutation from Obama in 2015 alone.

The outlet noted:

The commutations were part of a program under Obama to shorten prison sentences for inmates who would likely have received a lesser sentence in 2014. Among the qualifications to receive the commutation the inmates had to have no ties to large scale criminal organizations, served at least 10 years of their sentence and have no history of violence. The inmates were released, but put on probation.

It's not unreasonable to believe that a hypothetical President Michelle Obama would have similar views on crime and imprisonment.

Michelle Obama in 2024?

While many politicians and observers have come out recently to shoot down the idea that Michelle Obama has her sights set on running in 2024, the notion is far from crazy or radical.

As the NY Post pointed out, should the Democratic nominee get sick, die or bow out for any reason, the nominating process is left solely to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

That would allow the party to "leapfrog" Vice President Kamala Harris -- who polls worse than Biden -- and continue their 2024 campaign with a Black female, sidestepping any backlash from skipping Harris for someone like California Gov. Gavin Newsom, for instance.

It would also allow the Democrats to win back more of the Black vote that the Post noted are "steadily hemorrhaging to Donald Trump." Only time will tell if they make such a move, and God help America if they do and she actually wins.
