Talk about a blast from the past…
If I am being honest, I had completely forgotten about Fani Willis, the Fulton County prosecutor who had gone after Trump only to have it backfire on her.
She has just been ordered to dig deep for Trump-related records she claimed she could not locate.
Fani Willis rolled the dice and lost when she went after Trump, as the entire case backfired, and arguments wound up being canceled after Trump won the election.
Anthony Michael Kreis, a constitutional law professor in Georgia, explained, “There’s a decent chance that the appeal gets dismissed as improvidently granted because the court wants Judge McAfee to address how the case will proceed now that Trump is president-elect.”
Willis did manage to get re-elected amid this mess, stating that she was not giving up her case, hinting that after Trump leaves office, she will bring charges again.
She stated, “I’m here for eight more years, is my plan, so if that’s what it takes for us to get justice in some cases, we come to work every day, we’ll come in and look for justice.”
Tom Fitton and Judicial Watch have been Trump’s bulldog in many cases when it comes to getting documents released, and he went after Willis for communications with the January 6 committee.
Fitton had requested “all documents and communications sent to, received from, or relating to Special Counsel Jack Smith” and “all documents and communication sent to or received from the United States House Jan. 6 Committee.”
Willis acted like the Open Records Act did not exist and just blatantly ignored the request. Eventually, her office did turn over some of the records after initially denying they even existed, stating that it took several searches to find them.
There is a difference in simply sharing information, which would be common, or colluding to take someone down, which is what Fitton believes happened.
Willis had already been fined $22,000 in legal fees for not turning over the records in the first place, but now an order has come down to find the records and supply them to Judicial Watch.
Fitton stated, "The lawsuit is about any collusion and collaboration with Congress and the Justice Department, Jack Smith, and we haven't seen the documents, but they show that there has been because their very existence shows that they were talking to them.”
Willis has now been ordered to conduct a new search after the court ruled that her initial searches were inadequate.
I am not sure if Fitton will come up with anything, but it does put a smile on my face to see Willis getting the screws put to her over this case. But remember, this case was only shelved, not dismissed, so this little landmine awaits Trump after he leaves office.
