Fani Willis, Judge McAfee will both face primary challengers

Fulton County DA Fani Willis not only risks losing the ability to run her case against former President Donald Trump, but now she's also facing daunting future career prospects.

According to the Associated Press, Willis, and the judge overseeing the case, have both drawn primary challengers.

Willis is currently fighting to maintain her position on the Trump case, which could be in jeopardy in the coming days as Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, the judge in charge of Willis' election interference case, decides whether or not to remove her.

Judge McAffee has also drawn two challengers in the upcoming, nonpartisan May primary.

Who are they?

One of Willis' challengers, Attorney Christian Wise Smith, ran against Willis four years ago and ultimately lost. However, she clearly sees that Willis is more vulnerable than ever and is taking full advantage of the situation.

Willis also drew a Republican challenger, Courtney Kramer. She was the only Republican challenger to qualify for the primary ballot by the state's deadline last Friday.

Notably, Kramer has a connection to Trump. The AP noted that she "interned in the White House counsel’s office under Trump for three months in 2018."

Such races would usually not make the headlines, however, given the gravity of the Willis situation, the races will certainly earn plenty of media attention.

Challenging the judge

Judge McAfee will also have a fight on his hands if he hopes to keep his spot on the bench, as he has also drawn several challengers in the wake of the ongoing courtroom drama he's presided over, often criticized for the way he's handled it, so far.

In the nonpartisan judge race, McAfee will now face Robert Patillo, a civil rights attorney, and "Tiffani Johnson, a staff attorney for another Fulton County judge."

Late-breaking reports indicated that Judge McAfee will render a decision on whether or not to remove Willis from the Trump election interference case sometime this week.

Many legal observers seem to lean toward Willis' ouster. Only time will tell.
