Fani Willis facing impeachment resolution from Georgia state House

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is in real trouble amid an exploding ethics scandal and it may cost her her career.

Georgia state Representative Charlice Byrd introduced a resolution to impeach Willis on Friday which claimed that Willis "has used her office not to pursue justice but for political gain."

Willis was out to take former President Donald Trump down from day one and even fundraised off of promising to criminally indict Trump.

The statement from Byrd further ripped into Willis for her political prosecution of Trump and his allies "for their constitutional right to question the integrity of the 2020 election count."

Willis's case against Trump was sketchy from the beginning and now that she is facing allegations of both ethical and financial misconduct, her career and her case against Trump are likely over.

Explosive allegations

Things began going badly for Willis when it emerged that she had an alleged romantic relationship with a member of her staff.

That staff member was eventually identified as Nathan Wade who was one of the three special prosecutors working for Willis on her case against Trump.

This was all revealed by a court filing made by Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign staffer and one of the co-defendants in Willis's indictment.

These allegations are also backed up by an extremely messy divorce case between Wade and his wife. In fact, Willis was expected to have to testify in that divorce trial but that has yet to happen.

Byrd addressed this scandal saying, "Fani Willis has a laundry list of potential conflicts that make her unworthy and unfit to be the District Attorney in Fulton County ... Since Day One when she was elected, Fani Willis has embarrassed the criminal justice system in Fulton County and our state."

Willis wasn't shy about her motives and her hiring of her lover further makes it clear that her indictment of Trump was the product of ego and extreme political bias. Willis believed herself untouchable all while going against one of the most powerful men in America.

Victory for Trump

While the trial against Trump isn't officially over, this is all great news for Trump. Trump has branded Willis a political ideologue from the beginning and now she has lost all credibility as a prosecutor thanks to her behavior outside of the courtroom.

It isn't just Georgia's House of Representatives looking into Willis, the Georgia Senate has also established a committee to investigate alleged misconduct by Willis in relation to the trial against Trump.

Willis's ethical mistakes could cost her a career in law, her misuse of taxpayer dollars could land her in serious legal trouble. One way or another, it seems Trump will be getting the last laugh when the dust settles.
