This weekend, the big story was Trump ordering the strike against Iran to take out its nuclear development strongholds.
Some members of Congress believed that Trump needed congressional approval for the strike, but a constitutional expert just chimed in, stating that is not the case.
Presidents have the power to call for certain military actions, as long as it would not be deemed an act of war. To be clear, Trump cannot just initiate an act that would start a war and hide behind this provision, but I honestly do not believe that is the case here.
John Yoo, a legal scholar who helped craft the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), stated, "The position we took then, I think, is the same one that Trump should take now. As a legal matter, the president doesn't need the permission of Congress to engage in hostilities abroad. But as a political matter, it's very important for the president to go to Congress and present the united front to our enemies."
He later added, "People on the Hill are conflating what's constitutionally necessary with what's politically expedient. Two very different things."
Both Obama and Biden approved strikes that were similar to what Trump just ordered, and most Democrats sat on their hands. So, this is all political theater on their part. This was a military strike to ensure Iran could not develop a nuclear weapon. While Dems will say Trump just declared war, that was not the case there.
The entire world would become much safer on Saturday, as it now appears that Iran’s capabilities to develop a nuclear weapon have been obliterated.
Trump addressed the nation on Saturday night to explain, stating, "The U.S. military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear assemblies in the Iranian regime: Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.
"Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror."
Trump then made it clear the next move is up to Iran, concluding, "There will be either peace, or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.”
As all this was unfolding, I saw something trending on X that caught my attention, and it was about pizza, believe it or not.
As the administration was about to carry out this strike, it was reported that pizza orders at the Pentagon had exploded, with the point being that there was buzzing at the Pentagon, just as we had seen before other military actions.
The Pentagon Pizza Report (yes, this is a real account) posted, “HIGH activity is being reported at the closest Papa Johns to the Pentagon. Freddies Beach Bar is reporting abnormally low activity levels for a Saturday at 7:11pm ET. Classic indicator for potential overtime at the Pentagon.”
I am going to make an immediate suggestion that perhaps the Pentagon considers feeding staffers in a different fashion the next time we have a massive strike about to take place. It sure would be a shame to see an ambush take place because too many pizzas were ordered.
