Emily Stofle goes public with divorce from Mulholland Drive director David Lynch

Actress Emily Stofle went public with her divorce from Mulholland Drive director David Lynch after fourteen years of marriage after court documents were uncovered detailing the split.

Stofle and Lynch have been married since 2009 and they have an 11-year-old daughter, Lula Boginia, together.

Stofle is asking for sole custody of Boginia as well as spousal support and attorney's fees.

Lynch will apparently only receive visitation rights based on the court documents originally obtained by PEOPLE.

Unless something changes, this divorce will be Lynch's fourth failed marriage and will leave yet another child in a broken home.

Serial divorcee

David Lynch is one of the least successful men in America when it comes to maintaining healthy marriages.

Lynch is an incredibly successful director being responsible for films like Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, and Blue Velvet. His film record stands in sharp contrast to his family life.

Lynch acknowledged his failings both as a husband and a father during an interview with The Guardian in 2018.

He explained that "You gotta be selfish. And it’s a terrible thing, he said. “I never really wanted to get married, never really wanted to have children. One thing leads to another and there it is. I did what I had to do. There could have been more work done. There are always so many interruptions."

So Lynch is a workaholic who simply cannot have a good work life balance but this isn't news to those in Hollywood who have known him.

Lynch is well known for his eccentric and seemingly obsessive nature. While he is known to be pleasant and friendly, it's no secret that his work and his drive that have led to such a successful career aren't conducive to a good family life.

Messy split ahead

The situation between Lynch and Stofle seems to be anything but amicable at this stage with Stofle demanding full custody of their daughter.

One has to wonder what Stofle was thinking when she married Lynch back in 2009. She knew of his past failed marriages and his work oriented life, it's a miracle their marriage survived this long.

Hopefully, this doesn't have too much of a negative affect on the couple's young daughter who now has to handle a traumatic event so early in life.
