After asking a younger couple to move because they were sitting in seats that the elderly patron had reserved, the older man was severely beaten by the couple at an event in Florida.
Marc Cohen, 63 years old, had purchased the tickets personally before reserving the seats at the AMC cinema in Pompano Beach, Florida, where the movie was being shown.
According to Breitbart News, however, Jesse Montez Thorton II, who is 27 years old, was already seated in that section when he arrived at the event.
“When [the victim] and his wife arrived at the movie theater, he noticed an unknown adult male and adult female in his seats," Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Claudinne Caro said in a statement.
The victim politely asked the subject, Jesse Montez Thorton II, to move from their seats. Witnesses said that’s when Thorton became hostile."
When Cohen asked the pair to leave their seats on July 10, the guy identified as Thorton, became visibly agitated.
Cohen retreated, stumbling, as the suspect made a strong move. According to the footage, the younger man then launched into a vicious assault on the older man, repeatedly striking him with haymakers.
The man, referenced by officials as Thorton, was swiftly removed from the auditorium after onlookers intervened to keep them apart.
“I just don’t understand people, how they act that way — there’s no civility anymore,” the beating victim told WPLG-TV.
Cohen went on to say that when he asked Thorton to leave the seats, “He said, ‘Go run to your wife, little boy.’ I said, ‘You’re the little boy for acting this way.'”
Thorton allegedly yelled, "Do you want to fight?" before beginning to attack the legal seat holder.
“I was on the stairs and he just kept pounding away at my head, and I couldn’t get him off of me to do that,” Cohen said. A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, stated that the investigation into the crime took months.
“BSO detectives worked this case for months,” Caro reported. “The video and information about this callous attack received national and international media attention and generated leads, including an anonymous tip through Broward Crime Stoppers.”
Thorton was apprehended on September 28 and is currently facing charges. He has been detained at the Broward County Main Jail. A substantial bond of $250,000 has been set for Thorton's release, but urther details regarding the circumstances leading to the arrest remain undisclosed at this time.
