Donald Trump's Vice President 'short list' revealed

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) and U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) are on the short list of possible running mates for former President Donald Trump.

This is according to a new report from Fox Business. The sources of the report would appear to be Trump campaign insiders.

These insiders told Fox Business that Sanders, Stefanik, and U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) are all on Trump's short list of potential running mates. Stefanik, however, is said to be "a long shot."

"[T]he list includes Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, both rising stars in the GOP and members of the party’s Trump-centric MAGA wing," the outlet reports.

It adds, "New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, coming off her takedown of top Ivy League college chiefs during a hearing over campus antisemitism, is also on the list, though considered 'a long shot,' one person close to the campaign told Fox Business."

Perhaps just as important as who is on the list is who is not on the list, and, significantly, neither Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) nor former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) are on the list.

"People close to the Trump campaign say neither Haley nor DeSantis are on Trump's VP short list at this time," Fox reports.

It appears that Vivek Ramaswamy also is not on the list.

DeSantis, Haley, and Ramaswamy have all participated in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Ramaswamy has dropped out of the running, while DeSantis and Haley have remained. Considering some of the exchanges that we have seen between Trump and Haley and between Trump and DeSantis it is no surprise that neither individual is on Trump's list of potential running mates.

The accuracy of this list is unclear. Trump himself recently indicated that he has chosen a running mate, but he has yet to reveal who it is.

It is also unclear whether the three individuals listed above would be interested in being Trump's running mate. Based on comments made by Stefanik, one would have to assume that she would be interested. It is unclear, however, whether the same can be said about Sanders and Vance.

Talk has turned to running mates because Trump continues to dominate Republican presidential primary polls.

More importantly, though, Trump just won the Iowa caucuses by a wide margin, and he is expected to continue his domination in the upcoming New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

When Trump plans to announce his vice presidential pick is unclear. Chances are that, at the very least, it will not be until he secures his party's nomination.
