Former President Donald Trump is set to attend the wake of slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller on Long Island, officials confirmed.
Diller, a 31-year-old married father, was tragically shot and killed while on patrol in Far Rockaway. According to police, the assailant was an ex-convict accompanied by a career criminal associate.

"President Trump is moved by the invitation to join NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller’s family and colleagues as they deal with his senseless and tragic death," Karoline Leavitt, a Trump spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Leavitt conveyed the former president's appreciation for the invitation to stand in solidarity with Diller's family and fellow officers during this difficult time.
Diller, recognized for his dedication with over 70 arrests in his three years of service, was esteemed among relatives as a member of "the real Blue Bloods family," drawing parallels to the CBS television series depicting a family of New York City police officers. His brother-in-law and cousin also serve in law enforcement.
In an emotional online tribute, Jonathan McAuley, Diller's brother-in-law, expressed profound sorrow at the loss, describing him as a remarkable individual and father. McAuley vowed to care for Diller's son as his own.
“You were a good man and a great father whose shoes can never be filled,’’ said McAuley.
“I swear to you that I will look after your son as if he were my own," he added.
Survived by his wife Stephanie and 1-year-old son Ryan, Diller's wake will be held at Massapequa Funeral Home, offering visitation on Thursday and Friday.
His funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
Police investigations revealed that the assailant, Guy Rivera, with 21 prior arrests, fatally shot Diller as the officer approached his vehicle at a bus stop, possibly intending an armed robbery.
Rivera, a passenger in the car, was injured by return fire from officers, while the driver, Lindy Jones, was apprehended.
Trump's intended presence at the wake underscores the significance of honoring Diller's sacrifice and supporting his grieving loved ones and colleagues during this challenging period. No mention has been made of President Biden attending events related to the fallen officer, adding to the tensions during the heated political year.
