Democrats are already in trouble for the 2022 midterm elections because of President Joe Biden. However, keeping the presidency in 2024 may prove to be more difficult yet.
A McLaughlin and Associates poll published last weekend shows former President Donald Trump has a four-point advantage over Biden in a 2024 faceoff, Breitbart reported. Trump has yet to announce his candidacy, while Biden has already pledged to run for a second term.
The poll question posed a specific choice between Trump and Biden. Among the 1,000 respondents, 49% said they would vote for Trump, while 45% picked Biden.
Only 5% of respondents reported being undecided between the two candidates. Notably, 36% of those who picked Trump said they would "definitely" vote for him, and the same proportion for Biden reported the same assurance.
However, Trump has not said whether he will run in 2024, while Biden has announced he will run for re-election. This comes at a time when 67% of respondents also said they feel America is headed in the wrong direction with Biden at the helm.
The problem for Biden is that he will have to overcome his own record. Since Biden took office in January 2021, the nation has faced the disgrace of the deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan and the economic woes caused by the worst inflation since the Carter era and gas prices at record highs.
Moreover, Biden and the Democrats are loathe to do a thing about the illegal immigration problem as the border crisis faces a tipping point. The coronavirus pandemic, which was arguably the one issue that earned Biden his decisive win, has also worsened under the current president, with more deaths from the virus under Biden than Trump.
There is a great deal of time before the 2024 presidential election, but Trump seems to be ahead of the pack as of now. America needs a leader who isn't afraid to take the slings and arrows from Democrats and the media -- and Trump has already proven he can do that.
