DeSantis cancels two television interviews in latest sign of campaign dysfunction

Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis (R) just canceled two television interviews, the Washington Examiner reports

This could be the latest sign that DeSantis's presidential campaign is having some serious difficulties.

One of the television interviews was scheduled to take place on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday. The other one was scheduled to take place on the same day on NBC's Meet the Press.

Both networks have posted statements on the cancellations.

CNN wrote, "Unfortunately, tomorrow’s scheduled interview on @CNNSOTU w/ @RonDeSantis was canceled by the campaign. We look forward to having the Governor join us on the show in the near future."

NBC, on the other hand, went into a bit more detail.

It wrote, "Gov. Ron DeSantis has pulled out of his Meet the Press appearance tomorrow morning due to what a person familiar says is a last-minute schedule change. Per his campaign, he will now hold an event in New Hampshire tomorrow evening. He is currently campaigning in South Carolina."

The cancellation comes just days before the New Hampshire Republican primary, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Jan, 23. 2024.

One would have to presume that the point of the television interviews was to help DeSantis gain some support ahead of the primary. If this is correct, then DeSantis's decision not to do the interviews may suggest that his presidential campaign is having some real problems and that it may even be coming to an end.

This, at least, is what Jason Miller, the senior Trump adviser, suggested by writing, "Pack it up!" in response to the cancellation announcements.

It is well known that former President Donald Trump continues to dominate Republican presidential primary polls, often leading his rivals by upwards of 50 percentage points. Thus far, the polls have proven to be accurate as Trump recently dominated the Iowa caucuses.

Trump is also expected to win in New Hampshire, but many believe that New Hampshire is one state where Nikki Haley, one of Trump's chief rivals, might have a legitimate chance of winning.

The Hill reports, ". . . Haley has seen a steady increase in support from voters in New Hampshire, with just days left before the first-in-the-nation primary. According to polling averages from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Trump currently sits at 46.7 percent support, while Haley is closing in with 35.4 percent."

Trump, as you can see, is still expected to win, but polling would suggest that the margin could be a bit closer.
