Democrats push GOP to approve billions for Ukraine and migrants

Democrats have worked to avoid a government shutdown in exchange for billions of dollars toward Ukraine and migrant programs.

The plan includes $3.3 billion in migrant funding for "disaster aid" pushed by President Joe Biden in August.

Ukraine's gains

"The package also includes another $24 billion to help Ukraine fight its war against Russia despite the massive death toll and risk of nuclear escalation. The war is strongly backed by U.S. economic interests who hope to profit from a post-war Ukraine," Breitbart News reported.

"Clark believes she has the leverage to demand money for migration because a small group of House Republicans blocked McCarthy’s effort Thursday to push through a spending bill before the government’s financial year ends on September 30," it added.

The wish list

Democratic Whip Katherine Clark revealed he plans on what Democrats want in exchange for helping McCarthy

“We want him to live up to the agreement that he made [with President Biden]. We want to get disaster aid out. We want to continue our support for Ukraine. And we want them to end this sham of an impeachment inquiry," she told Politico.

Ukraine exempt?

Republicans are now upset that a Friday announcement by the Pentagon will exempt Ukraine operation funding from a government shutdown. The move comes after some Republicans refused to support a continuing resolution to keep the government running if it included funding for Ukraine.

"As the Sept. 30 deadline looms for lawmakers to reach a deal on funding the government, the Department of Defense (DOD) said its activities in support of Ukraine’s military would be exempt from any potential shutdown," Fox News reported.

"Operation Atlantic Resolve is an excepted activity under a government lapse in appropriations," DOD spokesperson Chris Sherwood told Fox News Digital in a statement.

The move reveals an America last approach by the Biden administration that will continue to fund Ukraine and support migrant programs even if the government shuts down, impacting millions of Americans hurt through the political battle.

McCarthy realizes a shutdown would be blamed on Republicans and is quickly seeking to avoid the issue. Even if he does, America loses as the tradeoff to keep the nation running will include funding efforts that weaken the nation.
