Democrat Party finally ready to abandon Green New Deal

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is likely to have a meltdown any day now.

Her legacy piece of legislation, the Green New Deal, is about to get tossed into the shredder.

It would appear that the Democrat Party has finally decided to move on from this disaster, and that is going to send a shockwave through the socialist wing of the party.

The Green New Deal

AOC hit the ground running after being elected to office, presenting the Green New Deal only a month after being sworn in.

At the time, she stated, "Even the solutions that we have considered big and bold are nowhere near the scale of the actual problem that climate change presents to us.”

She continued, "It could be part of a larger solution, but no one has actually scoped out what that larger solution would entail. And so that's really what we're trying to accomplish with the Green New Deal."

Her plan introduced drastic, and some rather silly solutions to cutting carbon emissions in the country. She was widely mocked for the plan, but Democrats eventually started to fold her ideas into their agendas.

GOP Crushes AOC

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was laying the groundwork as a party leader, coming out firing against AOC after she introduced her plan.

He stated, “When we began the 116th Congress, most Americans had no idea how far to the radical left the new Democrat majority would attempt to push the country.

"The ‘Green New Deal’ may be the most outrageous set of proposals ever presented in the U.S. Congress, and we have an obligation to expose this dangerous agenda for what it is and what it would mean for every American."

AOC was fairly quiet during the GOP’s criticism, but after Trump called it a “high school term paper that got a low mark,” she responded, "Ah yes, a man who can’t even read briefings written in full sentences is providing literary criticism of a House Resolution.”

It’s Over

A report broke this week that it now appears as though Democrats are walking away from AOC’s plan, and the timing is rather interesting, considering the rise of Zohran Mamdani in New York.

Over the last three months, the Green New Deal has only been mentioned a handful of times, and unlike in 2023, AOC failed to reintroduce the plan when the recent session started.

Senior legal fellow at the Energy and Environment Legal Institute, Steve Milloy, explained, “We’re at a remarkable point in the evolution of climate and it’s definitely trending downward right now. But nothing’s over.”

The Biden administration hurt this movement… of that I have no doubt. And we know Dems are not going to give up on green energy, but for now, the movement is taking a breath. If I were the GOP, this is the moment to pounce to introduce a plan where fossil fuels and green energy work together rather than a zero-sum argument. We could literally blow the Dems out of the water if they do it right, but we all know politicians are incapable of thinking that far ahead.
