Democrat Dean Phillips is trying to stop Biden from getting reelected in 2024

A Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives is actively working to prevent President Joe Biden from getting reelected in the 2024 presidential election.

The Democrat, according to the Washington Post, is U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN). In fact, the Post dubbs Phillips "the most vocal Democrat in Congress to challenge Biden's electability."

But, to be clear, Phillips is a supporter of Biden.

The Post reports:

Rep. Dean Phillips has nothing but good things to say about President Biden’s time in office, supporting his policies, praising his record and calling the legislative achievements during his first two years in office “historic in nature."

So, Phillips is not trying to prevent Biden from being reelected because he does not agree with Biden's policies.

Rather, Phillips is trying to prevent Biden from getting reelected because he does not believe that Biden is a strong enough candidate to beat the likes of former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party's clear frontrunner, in the 2024 general election.

"We’re at grave risk of another Trump presidency," Phillips said. "I’m doing this to prevent a return of Donald Trump to the White House."

It is for this reason that Phillips has launched a campaign whose purpose is to encourage Biden to drop out of the race for the 2024 general election.

To make his case, according to the Post, Phillips has pointed to "poll numbers and the president’s age, 80, as key factors as to why he should pass the baton to someone else in the party."

The Post goes on to report that Phillips's "concerns are sometimes expressed privately by other Democrats, but most disagree with Phillips’s decision to express his misgivings publicly."

Neither Biden nor the White House has commented on Phillips's campaign to stop Biden from seeking reelection. Instead, both Biden and the White House continue to insist that Biden is the Democratic Party's man for 2024.

The polls would agree. Biden, according to Real Clear Politics, currently leads the Democratic party by a lot. He is up, on average, 51.2 percentage points over his next closest Democratic rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

So, if Biden does not drop out of the running for 2024, it seems to be almost a certainty that he will be the Democrats' candidate in 2024.

But, one can never know for sure. There, is currently much speculation - particularly in light of Biden's lackadaisical campaigning - that Biden will end up dropping out of the running. Time will tell.
