Drake Hogestyn, who would have turned 71 the Sunday after his death, left an indelible mark on the world of daytime television. He joined "Days of Our Lives" in 1986, a role that defined his career for nearly four decades.

Before his acting career, Hogestyn aspired to a professional sports career, playing minor league baseball. However, an injury cut his sports career short, leading him to the path of acting, where he found his true calling.

Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of Hogestyn's career was his on-screen romance with Deidre Hall's character, Marlena Evans. Their relationship is celebrated as one of the great love stories in soap opera history, likened to other iconic pairings such as Luke and Laura.

"There are just a few standouts in soaps when it comes to romance, like Luke and Laura. Well, his character and Deidre Hall’s Marlena Evans is right up there," commented a long-time viewer.

Besides his legendary role on "Days of Our Lives," Hogestyn's acting career included appearances in other television shows and movies. He appeared on the ‘80s TV series "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and made guest appearances on shows like "Otherworld" and "Criminal Minds."
