David Hasselhoff hit the trails in Calabasas, California, on Monday, making a rare public appearance alongside his wife, Hayley Roberts. The 73-year-old Baywatch icon dressed comfortably for the outing, wearing a white T-shirt, loose black athletic pants, and a baseball cap. He also sported black glasses and used two hiking poles to navigate the terrain.
Roberts, 45, matched him in a plain white T-shirt, a teal baseball cap, and black leggings. She was also spotted looking at her phone during the hike. Hasselhoff, for his part, appeared to be in good spirits.
The outing is notable given what Hasselhoff has been through physically, Page Six reported. Back in May 2025, he was spotted using a wheelchair at Los Angeles International Airport, where he told a paparazzo he was "in a lot of pain." His rep later confirmed to Us Weekly that he had to undergo knee replacement surgery. At the time, Hasselhoff stood and limped through the airport alongside Roberts.
Seeing him out on a hiking trail with two poles, moving under his own power, is a good sign. Knee replacement recovery at any age is no small thing. At 73, it takes real determination.
Hasselhoff has kept a low profile in recent months. He last shared a picture of himself on Instagram back in November, promoting the video game SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide. In the photo, he put his right hand on a Baywatch arcade game while holding up three video games in his left hand. Not exactly the red-carpet circuit.
Last month, Roberts shared a video of her husband enjoying multiple beverages and croissants at an outdoor table at what appeared to be a luxe resort, offering a small window into their life away from the cameras.
While Hasselhoff recovers and enjoys quieter days, the franchise he made famous isn't sitting still. A star-studded Baywatch reboot is currently filming, featuring Brooks Nader, 29, Livvy Dunne, 23, and Shay Mitchell, among others. An insider told Page Six that the cast is working with seasoned lifeguards and that Nader and Dunne are excited to be working together.
Hasselhoff starred in the original Baywatch series as lead character Mitch Buchannon from 1989 to 2000. The show became a global cultural phenomenon, one of those rare pieces of American pop culture that translated everywhere. Whether the reboot captures any of that lightning remains to be seen, but the original still belongs to Hasselhoff.
For now, the man seems content with hiking poles instead of a rescue buoy. Good for him.
